This will be an interesting series. There is lots of modern history between these two teams and lots of super-stardom from both sides. Neither team has anyone who can guard the opposing team's best players (Nash will own Fisher, Kobe will own Hill, Gasol and Amare will own each other). Richardson has been essential to the Suns in these playoffs, and I think Artest may be the difference maker with his defense on JRich.

It will be a fun series to watch, but unfortunately, I think the Lakers are too good for the Suns and I suspect they'll take it in 6.

I think Hill may actually do an OK job with Kobe when he posts up some. He is a skilled vet with good IQ and doubt he will fall for some of Kobe's pump fakes of foul him in the act of shooting jumpers. But then again it is Kobe and sure Kobe will have no problem getting his points.

Very true actually. At this point in Kobe's career, he's not going to blow by his defender most of the time, he just doesn't have the athletic ability anymore. A smart and "crafty" but not very fast veteran will do a much better job than a young, athletic player who will fall for Kobe's pump fakes. I think Hill will do a decent job, but Kobe will still get his.

He doesn't have to really guard him at all.

If he can bait the chucker into putting up 27+ FGA a game (especially long jumpers early in the shot clock) then the Suns will be in prime position to win the series.

I goes without saying that Grant Hill can't and won't stop Kobe. But he is a decent defender and he will do as well as anyone possibly can on that Suns team.

Don't try to block the shots, just get a hand in his face. You don't have to jump as high or be as quick. It is his best option. Be smart on the picks. Force him to his left.

And most important... make him play defense while making him run through the crowd (bumps) as much as you can.

And if you are going to foul him... go for his fingers! = )

He won't. Kobe averaged 27.4 PPG on 54% shooting against the Suns this year...He's going to destroy them.

The question was: How will Hill GUARD Kobe?

Not: Can Hill STOP Kobe?

beacuse he can't and won't, Kobe to average 30 points

Suns should worry about stopping everyone else...

You don't have to worry if Kobe will get 30 points, because he will. You need to focus on making him less efficient while doing so. 30 points is ok on 31 shots.

Dudley will have the privilege of blocking Kobes shots.

Eh, one on one defensive match-ups generally don't matter that much in the NBA. The real question is what is the Suns team approach to guarding Kobe, and their team approach to guarding the Lakers. Are they going to double Kobe and in what situations, where is the double coming from, which gaps are you staying soft in, where are you forcing the ball on your rotation off the double, ect. These things will matter a lot more than Grant Hill on Kobe. Anyway, I think the Lakers feel that they have the advantage inside and will try to play inside out through Gasol much of this series.
