Is Bynum Learning To Be Tough?

Post#1 » by Mamba Venom » Mon May 17, 2010 8:39 am

This series will we see if Bynum can play through an injury the way many of the greats have. I think Bryant and the others have rubbed off on the kid and he is learning how to be a tough guy.

Thoughts

We will see how good he looks tonight!!! Go LAKERS!!!
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Well they say he's getting worse, he didn't practice much of this week, so not sure how tough he is being if it's getting worse, and he looked horrible in the last few games against Utah.

first of all, some would say playing thru a meniscus tear is crazy, not tough.

on the other hand, i see him playing through it and providing some minutes for us this series. not tons of minutes, but good enough to be a strong presence in the middle.

Agreed Lakeshow. He needs to be careful. $hit could get a lot worse.

I think he is, last few years I bet he would have sat out and eventually opted for the surgery. This year though he's understanding that just because it hurts, doesn't mean you can't go. Look at Lamar, he played through shoulder injuries and did well, Kobe we all know what he does. I don't think it's crazy at all that he is playing on the tear, its good for him imo. It will make him tougher, and should make his game even that smarter. Once you see what you need to do without a little extra lift or mobility, it can actually improve your game overall.

I'm going on 10 years of playing on a painful knee that swells every time I use it for more then 20-30 mins. It sucks, it hurts sometimes and some days its worse then others but you just deal and play smarter. Some days I know I just don't have any lift at all or lateral movement but I make due, it changed my game, so on the good days I can play both ways and be even better. He's dealing and I'm proud of him.

If you watch the actual press interview where he said its worse, it seems a bit misleading. Phil said he looked good and his demeanor was fine. He was pretty nonchalant about it and I just don't think he knew any better way to put it. He'll be fine, he's big and long enough that he doesn't need to be super explosive. If he just plays smart, strong, and steady there isn't anyone on the suns who can really bother him.

I really believe that he is playing to prove that he is tough and does not want to be traded to Toronto...
