Snider placed on DL

Post#1 » by There There » Mon May 17, 2010 9:11 pm

According to Jordan Bastian, Snider has been placed on the DL and is going to Florida tomorrow to begin rehab.

No specifics mentioned, but I assume it is retroactive to Saturday

E5 will be called up tomorrow to take his spot.

According to Sportsnet.ca
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Travis Snider is headed to the 15-day disabled list with a strained wrist.

Snider took one swing off a batting tee prior to Monday's game against Minnesota and concluded his right wrist still didn't feel right. He will travel to Dunedin, Fla., on Tuesday for an MRI.

Snider has not played since Friday when he hit a three-run homer in the Blue Jays' 16-10 victory over the Texas Rangers at Rogers Centre.

He said the injury occurred when his bottom hand slipped on a swing during the at-bat in which he hit the home run.

In 33 games this season, Snider has posted a .241 average with six home runs and 15 RBIs.

Meanwhile, the team activated third baseman Edwin Encarnacion from the DL. He's been out of the lineup since mid-April with shoulder soreness.

Wow, that's a real shame. He was getting into the groove in a big way.

Well you answered your own question, but it's also because losing Snider pushes Bautista to the OF and EE to 3rd. Wallace can't play 3rd (or rather they won't play him there anymore) or OF so he's not really an option, but the arby clock reason is just as good.

edit: and I just saw you said as much in another thread (about who's going to play where), so this was really pointless. xD

AA already said he wants Wallace in AAA for the full season working on his 1B skills. People need to stop asking for him to be called up.

To me there are a number of reasons why it doesn't make too much sense to keep him down all year. First, to really delay his clock under the current system, he can't be called up until a month or two into next season, 'cause if he's the opening day starter than he's a super two anyway, so if that's the plan you can bring him up the moment you know he's not a super two this year.

Second, it's been mentioned elsewhere that no one's truly sure what the status of arby will be for this year's call-ups as the CBA will be renegotiated between now and then. That may be a good reason to hold off or not, I really don't know and I'm not sure if anyone can say, but if we're basing it on the old rules, I think they're going to have a very hard time holding him off 1B to begin next year, so if he's shown all he can at AAA and Overbay is a total lameduck this year, I can't think of a good reason not to bring him up mid-to-late June or whenever it's safe (not really sure when it is or how you can tell).

If they truly plan to hold him at AAA until June/July 2011, that's something I can totally live with, but I just don't see it with the current 1B situation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this will be his first full season at 1B defensively? I can live with a full year in AAA just to work on his defense alone despite what his offense is doing.
