I didn't watch him much - I'll give you that. But when I did, he just seemed kind of lost out there when he was the main ball handler. Seems more like a good sixth man than a starting PG to me. Not worth the #5 pick, IMO.

Understandable. I just see a lot of praise for Jennings and Curry, when really they weren't THAT much better this year.

Hey, I'll say it right now, if a player like Whiteside comes into workouts and dazzles I wouldn't blame Petrie for taking him if it came down to it.

Re: Trading the pick?
As a wolves fan, I'd love to see both Cousins and Wes Johnson on the team, and I'd be highly interested in trading for the 5th pick.
We would be willing to trade anything outside of Rubio and the #4 if the value is right.
We also have Ryan Gomes, who is guaranteed for only 2.75 million over 3 years (1,1,.750) to dangle in salary matching.
We have Jefferson, Love, and Flynn to offer,
along with 16,23, and the draft rights to Nikola Pekovic, who is 6'11, arguably the best center in europe, and ready to come over. His value is probably a mid 1st.
We would be willing to eat Nocioni's contract, I don't know about Garcia's or udrih's.
We have Sessions, Brewer, Hollins and Ellington, who can be used to match salary.
I'm trying to gauge what, if anything would work between our teams that would end up with us owning the 4th and 5th picks. I think we could come to terms value-wise, the question is if it would be a fit player-wise.
Opening offers would probably be something like:
Love/Gomes for Nocioni/5
Flynn/23/Gomes for Nocioni/5
We value the 16th pick highly, but might move it if the deal is right.
We may eventually be persuaded into something like:
Love/23/Gomes for Nocioni/5
Flynn/Gomes/16 for Nocioni/5/33 (probably the most we'd give)
Flynn/Gomes/Pekovic for Nocioni/5
Love's awesome rebounding would look really nice next to Hawes or Thompson.
Flynn may be less of a fit, but he is a pure PG, and you were rumored to really like him at draft time last year. He is lightning quick and developed a nice outside shot, he would probably thrive alot more in your system than ours.
I'm reading you would like a shotblocker, If Whiteside is available at 16 or Alabi/Seraphim/Sanders at 23, is that more incentive to do a deal?
We could try to get a 3rd team involved and move Jefferson, Love or Flynn to a team with a pick where you can take Aldrich. like the above one where we trade 5 for 7. We could add a swap of gomes and hollins for nocioni as incentive to move from 7 to 5.

Re: Trading the pick?
As we've discussed over the past few days we are potentially interested in amswap for Jefferson in the right deal with the right stuff going both ways.
One of the more accepted deals was this
5th pick
nocioni
for
Jefferson
23rd pick

Re: Trading the pick?
Though i realize my scenerio is very unlikely given LEBRON JAMES current problems going on in CLEVLAND I say the KINGS at least try to aquire him
We can offer a deal such as :
KINGS TRADE : OUR 2010 & 2011 1ST ROUND PICKS WITH NOCIANI OR GARCIA WITH EITHER HAWES
for
LEBRON
the reason i listed NOCIANI OR GARCIA is because i believe salaries would have to be close & aside from BENO those are our more expensive contracts
If we got extremely lucky & pulled something of this nature off it would be very possible we could land a bigtime free agent such as BOSH etc. & make a serious run at the title .
I realize some may critize me & thats fine my post is possible though unlikely & I know that
but the KINGS like every other team would not be SANE if they didnt try to get LEBRON & of course that is not to imply that the KINGS wont at least try !
If we had LEBRONE & TYREKE together then watch out all other 29 teams that would be sweeeeeeeeeeet !!!!!!!

It would be a hard one for Wolves fans to accept.

I think Love alone is easily a 5-7 pick in this draft. The guy is a rebounding machine, a good passer and has a high basketball IQ. He has proven his worth. These college guys have not. You hope for the best of course, but there is still bust potential.
Gomes offers immediate savings. It's just too much given that we are taking Nocioni.
#23 is just a sweetener.
I honestly think that alone is worth the #5. Now if it is Jefferson? That's a different story. He is certainly talented in his own right, but we are dealing with a much bigger contract. I would understand throwing Nocioni in there for him.

Re: Trading the pick?
Love/23/Gomes for Nocioni/5
The value is fair but I personally wouldn't do it.
Love is a great player in his own right but I don't think he would help our problems though. Bringing in Love would tremendously help our rebounding but what about defensively? Not even close. Looking at our big man rotation after this trade:
Love
Landry
Thompson
Hawes
It's too many players to give minutes equally. Someone needs to go. Besides, just looking at the rotation, we are still going to get killed defensively despite Thompson being the best defender out of the group.
Thanks but no thanks.

Re: Trading the pick?
I honestly think that because we fell to the 5th pick this may be our Boston Celtics summer. Meaning that I think we will start to consolidate our assets and make concerted effort to get back to competing in the playoffs.
We have young players on rookie scale deals with talent and upside
We have the 5th pick in what is considered a relatively strong draft
Tyreke has star written all over him.
We have the capspace.
And even after do some Consolidation deals our team should still have very nice young depth.
I think it's time to start with the consolidation.
Step 1
Lets do the Al Jefferson deal for the 5th and Nocioni for Jefferson and the #23 pick.
that Moves our capspace to around 15 million
Step 2
Carl Landry
for
Jeff Green
OKC gets an actual big man that plays like a big man. Kings get a 3pt threat and starting sf.
Step 3
Donte Greene
#23
for
Brandon rush
2nd rounder
draft a couple 2nd round PG's.
Hawes/Thompson
Jefferson/Brockman
JGreen/Casspi/Nocioni
Evans/Rush/Garcia
Udrih/2nd/2nd
This team is still young but now should be a playoff team. The team also has a ton of 3pt shooting which will really help to spread the floor for Tyreke and Jefferson. Hawes is perfect in this lineup as his work from the perimeter and High post make him a fantastic fit next to Jefferson, green is a more dynamic option at SF than Greene or Casspi and he's still young. Rush really provides a nice shooting spark off the bench with his very high percentage shots.
I tried to come up with a way to go out and get danny Granger and run with a big 3 of Granger, Tyreke, and Jefferson but I couldn't come up with a deal that I think they would accept.

Questioning the fit is perfectly understandable. But the value is overwhelmingly lopsided in your favor. It just is. Jefferson + 23 for 5 + Nocioni is more fair. Strictly because of Al's contract.
Keep in mind that Pistons fans have agreed on Al Jefferson for Prince + 7. Prince is expiring, and overall cheaper. Nocioni, while cheaper this year, has an extra year on his contract.

Re: Trading the pick?
Jefferson+23 for Nocioni+5 doesn't meet salary matching. We'd have pick for each other and wait 2+ weeks until the moratorium is over.
with Landry a year from free agency, and on a reasonable deal, he'd be a pretty good trade chip.

I wouldn't say it is 'overwhelmingly lopsided' to the Kings favor. But I probably did miscalculated the value in general. The value leans towards to the Kings side by a considerable amount though.
...
I'm not interested in the Jefferson deal.
I do think Jefferson will return back to his top form couple of years ago but his passing abilities and overall defensive deficiencies simply can't be ignored.

Yeah, Johnson.
If we have to get up to 4 to get Cousins it's going to be tough b/c I dont know what we can do for MInnesota.

It would cost us someone like hawes or Thompson because moving down would mean minny was targeting wes johnson and that would lower the value that a guy like Greene would hold for the twolves.

I don't know if either of them fit for the same reasons some of you are reluctant on Love or Al.
Perhaps a third team needs to be involved? Seems a bit convoluted for a simple pick swap, but I think both teams need to balance their roster a bit.

How about a no pick swap deal. Saying if you draft Johnson instead of cousins we will give you Greene for a future top 59 pick.

Re: Trading the pick?
The only way the Kings even attempt to move up is if they really, really like someone in that top 4. Outside of Wall the only "must have" type of player is Turner and the Kings shouldn't even attempt to move up to 2 to take him for too many reasons to even count. They'll get someone solid at 5 and be happy with what they get.

Re: Trading the pick?
Obviously, swapping picks with the Wolves comes down to how much Petrie likes Cousins. If Petrie thinks he is going to be a stud, then I could legitimately see a trade going down because it does make some level of sense for both teams. From a fit standpoint, Johnson fits nicely in Minnesota while Cousins fits nicely here as well. Its just going to come down to how much Petrie likes Cousins - I'm not sure the price for moving up one pick in the draft would be all that heavy.

Re: Trading the pick?
Value in a trade down to 5 would be at least a pick in the mid teens like you wanted for tyreke evans last year.
I don't think Sacto has anything that would fit here that would not just be doubling up at positions of strength for us. Kahn will just pick Cousins and use 16 and try to move Love/Jefferson/Pekovic for wing assets. If you don't take Johnson at 5, GS and DET make good trade partners at 6 and 7.
Your best shot at Cousins would be New Jersey at 3, if they would take something like Thompson and Johnson for Cousins. Favors is just a perfect fit for them though, I don't know how they pass him up.
