PETER VECSEY:Criticism of LeBron patently unfair

PETER VECSEY

NEW YORK — Have you ever seen a city turn so fast on its Messiah?

Granted, America's favorite pastime is building up its heroes to obscene proportions and then tearing them down.

But have you ever seen sports fanatics and columnists summarily back flip so savagely on a sports divinity for prematurely ending a season fraught with majestic expectations with three straight losses and not "suitably" squirm or shrivel when interrogated by the outraged or "appropriately" accept full responsibility?

Remember what John Wooden said to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lew Alcindor) when he beat himself up after a rare UCLA defeat?

"If you want to blame yourself for every loss, then you've got to take credit for every win."

That just goes to show how completely out of touch Vecsey is with the times. I've been hard on Lebron but I still hope and pray he stays. I think Cleveland and Lebron both got a reality check more than the fans turning on him.

I know Peter Vecsey very well and have had him on some posters online blog shows over the years. Peter is just paving the way to be in Lebron James' good graces if he ends up becoming a Knick. He also understands how to generate traffic to his article and this one has gained plenty of it.

In just the past few months I've seen a city turn on a guy that led his team to 2 championships in the past 5 seasons ... but enough about football.

A lot of this is anger over James not making a commitment to stay in Cleveland. Once he re-signs with the Cavs, he will be the toast of the town again.

Funny, I am a writer, and I have not noticed this "savage backflip" that Pete speaks of. As HMFFL said, this is just a pre-cursor for him to be in LBJ's good-graces if he were to goto NY (Which he isn't), and to draw "hits" to his article(s)... that, afterall, does make a difference in his paycheck.

Nobody turned on The King. They are just offering accurate, educated analysis.

The offense is designed for LeBron to initiate plays. For whatever reason he was completely passive and didn't do that. That threw everyone on the team out of their usual offensive roles and collapsed the offense.

Now that sounds very accurate. He is the progenitor of the self-promoting journalistic charlatans that crowd media these days. Better to be famous than factual, apparently. I quote a NFL GM saying negative things about a player and the player's agent threatens me with a lawsuit, even after I send him a recorded copy of the conversation; Vescey get caught on air in a completely self-fabricated lie and somehow gets more work.

Dont care what Vescey says. Opinions are like smelly orifices. Its easy to take a few frustrated fans words and try to paint whatever picture that fits your agenda. Thats the media these days in all areas not just sports.
On his comment of tearing stars down, well its not the fans that glorify the sports stars, its the media trying to justify their jobs. I mean some fans do glorify the stars, but they dont have a daily forum on TV and radio, or in print like the media does.
The media spends their time propping these stars up in their columns, trying to be creative in writing about the athletes to impress their colleagues, then when the athlete fails, like Tiger, they have to tear him down to try to keep their credibility. As if they havent been riding their jocks all the way to the bank before the fall.
It is a sickening profession anymore, suck up to the stars you help create, so you can get the breaking news, or the best interview all the while trying to retain any semblance of credibility (Amhad Rashad anybody?). These guys nowadays are just like the groupies that hang around hoping to bed a star athlete or musician. Selling their souls for a few bucks, covering the asses of the big story until they cannot extract anymore blood like the leeches they truely are.
