Sure, the Rays probably won't win 100 plus games, but they are one of the 2 best AL teams.

They rely on defense, speed, a bullpen pitching very well, and maybe one of the best YOUNG rotations in baseball. That's a tough combo to beat in any 4 game series.

Sure, the Rays don't have the Yankees firepower, but they are hard to beat because of their versatility in how they play the game.

i still think t heir 'pen is beatable, but Im amazed by their SP, nothing but SICK talent

The bullpen has pitched great thus far, but I agree that if there is a weak link, that is it.

JP Howell had surgery yesterday and is out for the year, which won't help matters.

I don't know if you are trying to be funny with your overexaggeration of their staff or if you are serious, but if their SP is sick then what do you consider teams like the Yankees, Boston, Atlanta and San Diego.. Honestly, I think the Braves staff is better than the Rays... I think you are going a bit overboard here.. Matt Garza and shields are #2 pitchers at their very, very, best!!

you forgot price and wade davis...all 4 of them are front line starting pitchers...but alas, why argue..lets just let the season play out and we'll see....compared to our staff? they STEAMROLLED our #2 and #3 starters

might as well set sights on the wild card now...the red sox are gaining steam too

from the pen, to the injuries, from all the slumping hitters....its a lot to recover from, just have to hope its not too much

Huh?

It's may 21st! Are you really saying that Tampa is unreachable?? We still get to play em 14 more times this year..

You'd think that winning a chip last season would mellow you out.. geez..

---

As for the team, the pitching has been atrocious the last week or so. From our starters(AJ getting pounded twice, phil with his first mediocre outing and Pettitte with the loss tonight) to our bullpen(Joba, Mo, everyone else not named Robertson for a change), they've all been pretty hittable.

Although I think they will fall back to earth, the Rays do have a very good and deep pitching staff. Anyone who says otherwise is delusional. They have over a 1 run difference per game in ERA then any other AL team, they must be doing something right.

When each of the Rays starters is "on", they are dominating.

Every starter regularly throws 6-7-8 innings even when they don't have their best stuff.

I'd put the consistency of the Rays starters against any rotation in baseball. If you've seen them enough you'd know why too.

The difference from last year is efficiency

I don't think they get their due from some folks because they are not household names.

Yet.
