Prokhorov To Rename the Nets? (Keep Suggestions Civil)

He seemed to have been joking, but it obviously must have been on his mind for him to bring it up. If they were to change the name what would you want it to be?

If he does his homework, they were the Nets in NY when the team first started, they kept the name in NJ and should keep it in Brooklyn...Its a NBA franchise team name that has been around for a very long time, which carrys roots that I feel we should keep...

Same thing I was thinking, Vince. I would still follow the team a bit, but...I don't know if I would consider myself a "fan." After all, they wouldn't be the Nets, they would be Brooklyn's new team.

Whatever the name, I'll still remember them as the Nets I first knew them as. For me, first impressions are forever; change your name, your job, your gender... etc.

I actually hate Brooklyn Nets, and while I agree that the Nets are technically one of the oldest teams in the NBA, they are also one of the historically worst teams in the NBA.

A new "start" might be better off for the globalization that Prok has in mind. Of course, it doesn't do much for the locals...And quite frankly, if they change the name, I am 90% sure the new name will suck major balls.

There are so many sports franchises now that it will be difficult to think of something original.

Is Brooklyn famous for anything? Like if you would call Brooklyn the "city of", what would you call it? Maybe that can be a substitute for Brooklyn to make it roll better with "Nets".

"New York Nets" works, but they probably don't want the whole two NY teams again.

I doubt it gets changed. I believe he got the idea from Mike Francesa if any of you caught the interview. He basicly asked him 4 times if he would change the name. The first 2 or 3 times Proky said he had no intention of changing the name. Then he finaly got him to say maybe; who knows.

Mike can kiss my ass...He's one of those NewYorkers who, well, lets say he just doesnt like Jersey...Ask him where the Giants/Jets play? Answer: The Meadowlands...once again, kiss my ass Mike...

Remember its the Nets since 1968...

I agree with you guys...If they rename the team in Brooklyn, its like they're starting a new franchise...the Nets existence ends, and they become history as do some of their fans (though we all know they'll have more than enough to make up for it)...I will have a difficult time being as passionate about the Brooklyn "whoevers", though I will definitely follow the team...Though some may think of this as a fresh start, you are killing off one the older basketball franchises..from NY to NJ back to NY again...I'm cool with it, despite my preference for them to play at the Prudential Center forever...

Like I said, if he does his homework, he'll understand from Teaneck to Long Island to Piscataway to East Rutherford, they have always been the Nets...(NY Americans were used only in year one=1967)

Outside shot, the Nets stay in Jersey with an expansion team named the Nets...

I'm all for renaming them for a fresh start. My choice would be: The Brooklyn Paladins. For short they would be called the Pals. Ehh, hmm, maybe.

Btw, a Paladin is a protector (check out the old tv series). The NJ Nets logo has a bit of a shield thing going on with it that plays off of the idea of a Paladin.

Just sayin.
