Poll:Evan Turner VS. Demarcus Cousins
I'm interested in seeing now that the depression of losing the 2nd pick has worn out what everyones pick is now. I have really started to like Cousins, but i'm interested in others opinions if he is actually the better pick.

I don't think there's a huge gap, but the answer is Turner. Especially for the Wolves.

I don't dislike Cousins as much as I did a couple days ago but you have to go with Turner - slightly better talent and much better fit.

same here, I like Turner, but Cousins has huge tentacles that makes him easier to swallow. I said tentacles.
Not wild about the body fat though, thats pretty high

I really like Cousins, and I really like Evan Turner, thats why I wanted to see this. I think both are good fits. Yea, Cousins would force us into a lot of trades, but his potential is so high. Evan Turner is perfect for the triangle and sets us up to win sooner rather than later.

You know a bigger Al Jefferson with passing and a foul drawing machine, is my comparison for Cousins, which many of us have dreamed of with Big Al.

Re: Poll:Evan Turner VS. Demarcus Cousins
The more I think about it the more I want Cousins, but not more than Turner. Cousins has good ballhandling for a guy his size, passing, draws fouls, and can block shots. Maybe not as polished as Al on offense but not many are. I can't really think of someone with his skill set...

I do have to say I've been dreaming of a dominant PG/C duo for this team since 1990. Rubio/Cousins looks like an actual legitimate shot at that. It is intriguing.

Re: Poll:Evan Turner VS. Demarcus Cousins
Like all fans, we love the guy we think we're going to get, and almost always see him as the 100% full value that he will develop into the greatest player his potential allows. A quick scan of the last ten years of #2's demonstrate this clearly;
2000 1.2 Grizzlies Stromile Swift
2001 1.2 Clippers Bulls Tyson Chandler
2002 1.2 Bulls Jay Williams
2003 1.2 Pistons Darko Milicic
2004 1.2 Bobcats Emeka Okafor
2005 1.2 Hawks Marvin Williams
2006 1.2 Bulls Trailblazers LaMarcus Aldridge
2007 1.2 SuperSonics Kevin Durant
2008 1.2 Heat Michael Beasley
2009 1.2 Grizzlies Hasheem Thabeet
We still make trade offers like Turner IS Brandon Roy, not that its his highest upside. I think we need to look at the magnitude of the trade's downside if Turner happens to finish up like the average overhyped #2.
It would have been an interesting study to see how the perceived value of Cousins rose in the days after the lottery.

Re: Poll:Evan Turner VS. Demarcus Cousins
is Cousins professional enough to get in shape though? Especially since he's probably going to have decent success as is, he might not see the need. He's 19 and already chubby, usually guaranteed contracts don't motivate a guy to get in shape, for most guys it gets worse as they age.

Re: Poll:Evan Turner VS. Demarcus Cousins
I'm cooling pretty fast on Turner and warming up to Cousins. I would still love to have Turner, but maybe that's just because we are lacking that true #1 wing that we need so bad. If we went Cousins and then wing at 16(George, Anderson) then I'd be happy with that too. Then maybe we could also try to get a wing like Gay, Deng, Granger?

Re: Poll:Evan Turner VS. Demarcus Cousins
I would ask the question a little different.
Turner or Cousins and asset?
Obviously we are not sure what the asset is. Basically do we see Turner to be move valuable then Cousins and other asset that it would take to get the 2nd pick? Personally I vote for Turner still.

Turner, easy. I think people who are assuming Cousins is a rich man's Al Jefferson on crack at this point. Do you remember how potent a scorer Al Jefferson was? If Cousins is a rich man of that who has defense, then he will easily be an all time great and the best big man in the NBA. He would be just an incredible player, easily the best Big to come in since 03. I don't see him as being that good. If he is, then by all means take his butt and don't look back. I'd rather have a big like that over any other player.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

Re: Poll:Evan Turner VS. Demarcus Cousins
You guys saw that Hollinger said Cousins was the best pick in the draft?
He's a little vague on his math, but this was interesting:
He's a little vague on his math, but this was interesting:
1 DeMarcus Cousins Kentucky 16.14
2. Evan Turner Ohio State 14.79
3. John Wall Kentucky 14.68
4. Greg Monroe Georgetown 14.39
5. Derrick Favors Georgia Tech 13.98
Based on that, the outlook for Cousins is quite positive. Of the eight previous players to rate 15.0 or higher before last year's draft, four became superstars: Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul. Of the other four, three have become near-All-Stars -- Rudy Gay, Luol Deng and Drew Gooden -- and one became, well, Mike Conley.

In a vacuum, this is Turner.
But as several have mentioned, it may very well not be worth our while to pay to move up.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Good find Shrink. As a Xavier Henry fan, I wanted to note that he's 6th on the list.

Thats his upside, thats why its hard not to like him. As good of a scorer as Big Al was that year, it could have been done more efficiently and used that to help the team more. Cousins difference would be that he gets those points by drawing fouls and being more physical while utilizing his passing to make the team better.

To play devil's (not Devilz's) advocate, people are also assuming that Turner is the next coming of Brandon Roy.

Re: Poll:Evan Turner VS. Demarcus Cousins
I have started to get on board with a Cousins / George draft... especially after the measurements.
George came out at a solid 6'8 220. With his range and skill set he is an ideal fit for us. He can play both wing spots and will be much cheaper to get than Turner. Cousins has a 9'5 reach, so not only is he a solid 1 - 1.5 inches taller than Big All, his reach is at least 3 inches more and the same as Whiteside.
Problem is, I think George will end up in the 7-10 range. We would have to do some wheeling and dealing. Perhaps the Big Al for Prince/#7 deal or the Utah for the #9. Cousins weight and body fat is a concern. Between him and Love, we need to have Gillian Michaels come in and kick their ass fro the summer. Also leaves the question of Darko. I think if Darko is in shape and back down towards the 250-260 range, He could operate like a poor mans Gasol but he needs to be okay with a 6th man role.
Cousins - Darko.
Love - Darko
Prince - Brewer
George - Ellington
Flynn - Sessions
