Check out Cousins body fat %, it's scary - 16.4%! He's at 292 pounds total weight as well.
Nothing says top prospect like showing up in horrible shape to a predraft camp!
Greg Monroe is 6'9.75, legit, but his body fat % is shoddy as well, although that's why I believe a guy like him can really improve his athleticism, motor and explosiveness with strength training, cardio and such, but that's a big if.
Favors is 6'8.75 and with a serious standing reach and wing span.
I think a shocker is Luke Babbit at 6'4.75, that's not good height for a small foward that is claiming he can be a stretch four in the NBA.
Paul George is 6'7.75.
Bledsoe cam in at 6'0.25
Lot of interesting stuff in there.
All these measurements are in socks, or at least without shoes.

Re: Measurements are Out
I didn't realize Lance Stephenson was only 6'4." I thought he played the SF. I was gonna see how far he dropped Round 2 and maybe talk about taking him.
I like my boy Patrick Patterson's numbers.
I still believe if we draft Cousins, we should target Bledsoe. I think having a familiar face (who is also a pretty solid player who fills a need for us) would help Cousins not go Sean Williams on us and destroy a cell phone store.
Bledsoe also was arguably the best player for UK down the stretch last year too I will mention.

Cousins is shorter than I thought he was going to be, but damn, he is long as heck.
Greg Monroe has great size. I'm impressed.
And Vince, Luke Babbit is 6'7.5". Where are you seeing 6'4?

Re: Measurements are Out
You have to be careful with these measurements. Give it an hour or so. I've been a fan of DX for a long time, and they have typographical errors sometimes when they're trying to enter all of this information on the fly.
I just about freaked when I saw Babbitt's measurements earlier too, but they've corrected it. 6'7.5" without shoes, 6'8.75" with shoes. In basketball terms, he's 6'9, which is requisite size for a stretch PF. The more intriguing measurement is Jon Scheyer's wingspan. For most humans, your wingspan exactly matches your barefoot height. Most NBA basketball players have a wingspan at least 3 inches longer than their height. Scheyer is 6'4.75" without shoes, but his wingspan is 6'3.25", a whopping 1.5" SHORTER than his height. That's almost unheard of, and he certainly wins the T-Rex award this year. That doesn't mean he can't contribute on the NBA level, just that his shot-creating and defensive abilities will most likely be challenged.

Re: Measurements are Out
They must have changed it. Before it said Babbitt was 6'4.75.
There were people on the Draft Board saying that James Anderson's #'s couldn't be right earlier, so maybe they messed up and reversed the two player's #'s?
It's correct now though, Babbitt at 6'7.5, James Anderson at 6'4.75.

Hey vc4p, I'm still waiting for your Favors vs. Cousins breakdown. Let me know if you want to tag-team on the project, point-counterpoint style. You can extol the virtues of Derrick, while I shoot them all down, then we do the same with DeMarcus!

What was it in college because other reports said that he actually looks better and thinner. Also is on a seafood diet (word).
16% body far is not the end of the world, he can easily work on that.

Re: Measurements are Out
A proper diet and longer season/practices will cut Cousins body fat down rather quickly. If the talent is there and you think you can keep him motivated, that isn't an issue. Just ask yourself "Does he remind you of Eddie Curry or Jamarcus Russell?"

Sorry man, I've been busy at work and during the day I haven't been online as much as usual and at night I haven't been as motivated to get into this.
I'll try to start one either tonight or tomorrow. I like the idea of going back and forth, maybe I'll start the thread out pretty basic and we can let it evolve.

It was the seefood diet, he's see's food, he eats it...
On a serious note, I heard he was slimming down as well, kind of odd, but the #'s don't lie, unless he was on some serious fatboy **** and was around 315 or so all season with a crazy body fat % of like 25?

I don't know dude, this kid seems like he will beast a little something, but will be one of those guys that has a real solid career, but everyone always says, "Man imagine what he could have been?".
I think he has too much talent to become Eddy Curry, but it doesn't mean he'll be all that great either.

If we draft this kid, someone is going to have to drive him to White Castle.

Re: Measurements are Out
My main thing with anyone that has a weight concern is, what is the POINT of the concern over his weight??? Does it keep him from being great?
When most prospects are overweight, you rightfully assume that their lateral quickness, rebounding and other areas would be improved by losing weight. Well, a precious few others are just built the way that Cousins is, and it doesn't prevent him from being an elite prospect one bit. People this time last year were saying, "if only DeJuan Blair could get down to 235-240lbs, he'd be so much better, and it'd prove he's dedicated enough to be an NBA player". Well, 37 draft picks and an All-Rookie selection later, we find out that he's really great at that weight. Before that, it was Love, before that Big Baby. I'm not saying there aren't cases where a prospect doesn't need to lose some weight, ESPECIALLY one who are more potential than player. But in most cases where you have a guy producing at a high level with an unusual body, that production is more BECAUSE of that body than despite it.
(It's just as true on the other end of the spectrum, too btw, and I don't think Varnado's painfully thin body will prevent him from being an impact shot-alterer in the league).
If you've spent time watching film of DeMarcus, you know that even at his current weight of 292lbs, he is ridiculously cat-quick. He can defend the pick-and-roll well, run the break and even check SFs just like some of the more prototypical versatile PFs can. People look at, say, Favors for example, and assume that with his athletic build that he can do all of these things, but DeMarcus is far more gifted in this regard. And as demens and Pp27 mentioned, an NBA regimen should only help his conditioning.
As for the rest of the measurements, I knew Cousins would measure out taller and longer than Favors. His incredible wingspan (7'5.75") and standing reach (9'5"), paired with his instincts for positioning, wide frame and strong lower body, could make him a near peerless rebounding machine in the pros. Combine that with his skill and power, and IMO we have a world-class prospect with the 3rd pick. Can you tell I'm high on this guy?

Re: Measurements are Out
With the weight issue, I think the concern is not whether he has enough quickness at that weight. You can see he has it. The concern is whether he can control that weight, and if he'll start to balloon once he starts making multimillion dollar contracts.
Curry was every bit the physical specimen that Cousin is (if not more, I seem to remember Curry actually in pretty decent shape in HS), and yet you see how quickly he ballooned and is almost out of the league...regardless of how good an inside scorer he is (which, like...90% of the NBA teams need).
Honestly, skill wise...I think Cousins is much better than Favors. If Cousins doesn't have the weight concern (or the attitude concerns), there's no question in my mind that he'd be challenging Wall for the #1 pick selection in this draft.

Re: Measurements are Out
Speedy made a very good point. The only thing that sets Cousins apart from challenging Wall or Turner for the number 1 and 2 spot is his attitude concerns. Without it he'd be a higher prospect and hype would surround him like crazy.
I feel like we have a chance to draft a rare player in Cousins, who can just dominate the paint every game. Yeah Wall and Turner are both special but how many Cousins can you find in every draft? Next year, there will be another Wall and another Turner and maybe a better talent than them.
I just hope that Nets fans would find a way to convince themselves that losing at the lottery might actually be the best thing that ever happened to this franchise. Kinda like the Kings last year.

Re: Measurements are Out
Please don't draft Cousins the fact that his body fat is 16% and we hope he doesn't go S. Will on us is scary. Let me set the record straight. COUSINS IS NOT A PF. He is to slow and fat. Neither is Lopez for that matter.
The draft pick without a doubt is Favors his upside is 10x that of Cousins. He has a body and frame unlike anything I've seen since K-Mart.
PLEASE NO COUSINS!!!
As a matter of fact I have Favors as the #2 prospect over Turner.
