Offers for Cousins

Post#1 » by cpfsf » Sun May 23, 2010 9:39 pm

This hasn't really been discussed. We've talked about how best to acquire Wesley Johnson, and I think we've all come to the same conclusion that we won't trade Cousins to get him. So which teams would make good trade partners? If we're going to trade down, we better get some asset in addition to a pick.

This isn't a trade Cousins asap thread. We still could use a center, but we if we did trade him what could we get.

2 options.

1.) Outright trade of pick for player (thus not taking Johnson)

2.) Trade with Sac or GSW for Johnson (why make a trade down if the other team takes who we want)

Personally, I do not think this is an option we should explore. I am sick of getting pieces and not a chance at a legit star.

I would not be surprised if all of the top 6 teams passed on Cousins. He has incredible talent and size, but when character/maturity is a red flag this alarming you almost always get burned. The 16.4% body fat is all a big red flag for me. Nearly all of the league all stars are 1) in incredible shape and 2) do not have and have never had immaturity issues. If I'm David Kahn and my job depends on the outcome of this pick I am not rolling the dice on Cousins and trading my current best player for him. I'm doing the safe thing and Taking Johnson.

His personality issues are way overblown and I don't think you can pass on him. Make a trade for Johnson sure, but all this crap about him falling out of the top 10 is just that...crap. Sacramento wouldn't pass on the chance to draft him, nor would Golden State or Detroit. He's the BPA at 4, he fills a position that the team hasn't filled since before Garnett was drafted and has a skill set that compliments Rubio's. He's well, well worth the risk.

If Cousins gets traded it's probably what rev said, a really good player outright or some pieces from Sacramento/Golden State. But I also agree this team has had enough of taking and trading for worse players. They need to take a chance on someone because they can't afford to take another safe pick. Even with Rubio, the team still needs a star.

In general. the thing the one thing MIN needs more than any position or skill is a true superstar player. I believe Cousins has the chance to become that, although the chances are small. However, MIN needs to acquire players like this (and Rubio) to get as many high upside lottery tickets as possible .. it may be the only economical way we get a superstar in Minnesota in the immediate future.

I hope visiting fans will post their offers for Cousins, but I think they will generally be tradedowns for multiple pieces. If the Trade Board is any indication, these will mostly be "good" pieces with little chance of being "great," and probably not meet MIN's greatest need.

I am on the "Cousins will bust it big time" bandwagon so I dont mind if we just take Johnson straight up with the 4th pick.

ridiculous, outrageous, preposterous

I have to say this again, Sacramento has a thread on WJ playing shooting guard. They just don't need him. NJ and Minnesota blocks Sacramento from Favors and Cousins, so we can create a deal to get #5. We get our cake, and Cousins gets to eat it too.

SACs starting SG this year was Beno Udrih. Enough said.

Wasn't it Evans? Unless they still think he's a point guard.

I'm sure that's still the company line.

Standing firm on the pro-Cuzzo side of things. I'm not trading him for anyone but Turner.

It isn't enough said when you leave out the part that Udrih's a solid fit in a backcourt with Evans and just had a very solid year in that role.

I'd be very surprised if Sacto took WJ. If the Prince/#7 for Al actually does happen, one of AFA or WJ should be there. I'd be surprised if Monroe and Aldrich were passed up by both GSW and Sacto. Monroe in particular looks like a natural feet for both teams (and this team, by the way).

I hate Aminu as a prospect. I think he's a total bust waiting to happen. Just sayin'.

Because of the red flags and question marks surrounding Cousins, I don't think getting a star caliber player is in the cards. We have to just roll with what we've been given. I accept that.

I'm a little shocked at how far Cousins is falling though. Usually the big goes right away: Oden, Thabeet, Bogut, Bargnani. I don't know why Cousins isn't even considered to be that solid. Maybe the league is starting to come around to the fact that Gaurds dictate the game now, and are drafting and ranking accordingly. It does still seem odd that Cousins isn't labeled as a top flight prospect.

complete conspiracy theory: just like McHale with the propoganda about L Woods a while back. Spread smack about a player you want to land in hopes he slides. With Loren it was about his back, which he has yet to this day had a problem with again, and with Cousins its the attitude.

It's not that shocking. For all that he did last year, he did it in really limited minutes because of both foul trouble and bad conditioning and with rumours about some horrible attitude it's easy to see why he'd fall to 4, if you can really call that a fall.

I don't see Cousins falling. He's still in that "Big 4" category of star prospects in this draft.

It's really hard to judge how much a team values a first year PG. However, with Jrue Holiday in place, it would at least take a three-way.

Interesting idea. #4 + "Flynn's value" + $6 mil in cap space (saving PHI $15) seems fair-ish. Indy for the #10 and matching salary?

What would you guys want from the pistons for the #4? what would you say about prince/jerebko/daye/future first round pick? idk how much you guys value that pick. if thats not good enough what would you suggest? i would like to somehow keep our #7 pick but i understand if you would demand that to. what do you guys think?
