Price injured; Out "months"

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Sun May 23, 2010 4:38 am

Some bad news broke Saturday night revealing another setback for the Indiana Pacers. Mike Wells tweeted that A.J. Price injured his knee during a celebrity game in New York and expects to have surgery next week which will keep him on the shelf for a couple of months.

Wells confirmed the news passed on to him by Newsday's Alan Hahn who mentioned the injury required an ambulance to pick up Price. Stay tuned for more details.

I'm wondering which knee went out on Price who ended his junior year at UConn with torn ACL in his left knee. If the prognosis is for two months of recovery, then this injury must not be as bad, but any time off for Price is a set back. Couple that with another knee injury and it worsens the situation since Price lost some bounce in his game after the ACL tear. While he adapted well to a new style of play, he certainly can't afford to lose any more athleticism or quickness.

At this point, we just have to hope for a full recovery this summer.

That's too bad. I just read an article on Monday on the Indy Star web site that Price, along with Hibbert and McRoberts arrived back in Indy to start workouts and they said vacation was over, now it was time for work. They seemed very committed to developing their games. And now this.... def a road block in his career, will be interesting to see how he recovers from it. Too bad, big blow to a good guy.

He's been dealing with this stuff for a long time...

I wish him the best, and I hope he can be a sparkplug for the second unit.

I've been thinking more and more that we're going to go after Eric Bledsoe in the draft. This just adds to that.

Yeah, I wonder if we could do a Rush for #16 with Minnesota. That would allow us to draft Xavier Henry (I think he has more upside than Rush) at #10 and Bledsoe at #16.

As much as I like Rush, I couldn't turn my nose up at that possibility. It would have to be a trade that Minny would draft Bledsoe for us and THEN do the trade for Rush, because there's a chance he goes higher than 16, then we'd have Henry and Rush but no PG.

Anyone knows Avery Bradley from Texas? He's 6'3 and pretty athletic. There are 2 mock draft websites predict the Pacers will pick him, while none place Bledsoe in lottery.

Are the Pacers officially the unluckiest team in history?
I d hope AJ recovers quickly and the injury isn't serious coz I think he will have a prominant role this season for the team. Appartantly it is something with or around the kneecap.

Well this effectively leaves us with 1 PG (TJ) for the start of training camp. This increases the chance we go with a PG in the draft and perhaps will need to swing a deal for another 1st round or to move back coz like most of ou here say the 10th pick for Bledsoe may be a stretch.

I hope this turn of events doesn't cause us to reach with the 1st round pick in some way. I'm not sold on Bledsoe at all as a point guard and would Texas have imploded the way they did if Bradley was near ready to play pg in the NBA?

At the end of the day Pacers need more quality talent and that means BPA at pick 10. Don't know if BPA is Udoh, Davis, Henry or Patterson. Its probably not completely out of the question that the Pacer's bpa could still be had at 16. If that is the case and Minnesota likes someone at 10 maybe something like Ford and 10 for Sessions and 16 could be worked out.

Grabbing someone like Vasquez, RAndal or Torrence at pick 40 makes even more sense now. "Even before Price went down Pacers needed to do something about a starter at pg. I'm thinking Ridnour, Watson, Blake, maybe Farmar could be stop gap guys.

Let's not stress too much yet. There is a long summer ahead and quite a while before the season starts. Hope you have a speedy recovery AJ!

There is at least some good news on Price.....

They say the injury in question is a dislocation of the knee cap on his left knee. Typical procedure for this is roughly 8-12 weeks from surgury to recovery. Yes he will lose out on summer camp, but should be back and healthy for training camp in June.

well now that he is offically out 4-6 months...that puts him back and ready to go anytime from September to end of october...pretty close to the season...this is a total blow..i have been a UCONN fan for some time and really was able to see what he did there and wish Obie woulda gave him more time towards the end on the season...hopefully he fights through it like the many other obstacles he has had in his time...why not keep him...not like we are paying him alot of money

Yep offically 4-6 months. Knowing our medical staff may even be longer. That is a lot of time to miss for a developing point guard.

When he does return it remains to be seen if he can build on his promising rookie season. I liked him so hopefully we retain him and he has a speedy recovery.
Can we please catch a break as a team. Our woes are maing me depressed already

Oh and perhaps we go after Sherron Collins in the 2nd round to fill a backup role?

Please, no more veteran stopgap point guards. I'd rather just draft a point guard in the 2nd round(sherron collins or someone) and suck, maybe suck enough to get a top 5 pick. Not that we would want one of those picks though, we'd win out like we did this year. I do feel that Willie Warren might honestly turn into a pretty good pro. After the Griffins left, the surrounding cast was pretty bad. Sucks for him, since he wanted to stay after they left to grow and see how good he could be without them, and now his draft stock has plummeted.

Back to step one at point guard. Thought we had some kind of promise from Price but who knows now. So we're looking at a October to December return back to the court for Price, and god only knows how much time he will need training.... my guess he returns late 2010 and is send straight to the D-League for probably remainder of the season.

I doubt the Pacers really see Price as a starter yet, so I'm not sure this will really impact their decision making on who to draft. They could always take a PG in the second round like Vazquez or Collins for insurance.

I think Price's injury almost guarantees we draft a PG in the draft (whether that be in the 1st or 2nd round).
My preference is Collins in the 2nd. I don't know too much about Vazquez. We will need insurance.

I'd rather have Vazquez than Collins. Watching the tournament, Vazquez was huge down the stretch and did not miss a big shot and really kept the Terps in that game. He's cocky, almost to an obnoxious degree, but he likes to play the villain...similar to how Reggie used to play. We'll have to see how he does an workouts, but from a purely personality standpoint, I want that player on my team.

Yeah, 4-6 months is not good. I just hope there's no poor off season choices because of it.

^ i agree that we need someone with a passion like Vasquez in our team, and he can definitely play, he's a good example of what the team needs, ability to create shots and competitiveness. Hope we could have him at the 40th.
