DFA'd...he'll be assigned to AAA if he clears waivers.

Edit: the Jays have an off-day coming up after the Angels series, so they don't necessarily need to call up a fifth starter for the time being. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they call up Purcey to get a final kick at the can as a reliever...we could use a fresh arm out there.

Purcey is a good guess, but I'll predict Tallet's return.

Looks like they'll need a 5th starter on Tuesday in the Rays series. Litsch won't be eligible to return by that point, so it will have to be someone else (probably Tallet).

god no....
anything is better than Eveland, but Tallet's marginally better.
Cito can't understand that Tallet = long relief.

isn't this around the same time things went funky last year? couldn't find a starting pitcher that could pitch?

Not really; our nine-game losing streak happened in large part because our offensive output dried up. Eliminate the final 12-10 extra-inning loss (which was the doing of the bullpen), and we only scored 1.6 runs/game, while allowing 5.1/game, with the opposition scoring four or fewer in half of those eight games. So the pitching wasn't great, but had the offense been average, it would have been 3-6 at worst.

Edit: and the difference between a good fifth starter and an atrocious one is, at worst, perhaps 3 wins...bad enough to sink you in a tight pennant race, but not exactly likely to cause a team to implode.

Purcey it is, but Tallet will probably be up next Tuesday.

Can't we call up Halladay?

I'd trade Beastita for Halladay. Maybe :-)

Heh.

Well, it does seem like it was time. He had a couple of decent starts and then just sucked consistently. Should be neat to see who we bring up instead.

you kind of want to feel sorry for him but then you look at his "stuff" and its pretty awful. his fastball topped out at something like 89 mph?

Eveland's average fastball velocity was slightly over 88...Marcum's is a couple MPH lower. Difference being that Eveland can't locate for ****, whereas Marcum can.

Hm well Zep and Jesse and have both been pretty bad with their minor league starts. I'd like one of them to be back to form as the 5 starter and we'd be in decent shape.

Glad to hear about Eveland...it was about time

As for Zep and Litsch doing bad in the minors right now...I remember Romero having the same problems before they gave him a shot in the Majors.

Good to here Dana is gone. He could barely find the plate and when he got hit hard.

With Cito being Cito i think we will most likely see Tallet back in the rotation.

Bring up Bobby Ray or Mills for couple of starts. If they pitch well, that's great, if they suck, then whatever. Either Litsch, or Rzepfkeialjkzmfjigjzinsky will be ready by then.
