Gilbert Arenas is welcoming a chance for a fresh start with the Washington Wizards thanks to the Ted Leonsis takeover, according to team and league sources. The fallen star is also excited about the prospects of playing with Kentucky guard John Wall, whom Washington is expected to select with the top pick in next month's NBA draft.

Very happy to read this. What else would you expect from Gilbert? There has been some serious questioning of his character in the media, but as Wizards fans we should all know that he is a good guy at heart, and is willing to do what is asked of him to win games. He hasn't played in 3 years, and like the article says he just wants to play.

I think that Gilbert has always paid an interest in our draft picks. I remember specifically him getting Blatche's phone # the night of the draft, and got in touch with him right away. I believe that Gilbert will be instrumental in improving Wall's jump shot. Those shooting contests between he & Stevenson were directly responsible for Deshawn shooting 50% from the field for that one year. Arenas & Wall should really help each other a lot in practice.

Wall is going to have one side of his game extremely developed while the other side is heavily de emphasized while spending countless hours in the gym with gil...and it has nothing to do with defense.

People underestimate the fact Wall is his own man and seems to have a solid head on his shoulders. I read he doesn't have braids, tats, or sag his pants because he realizes kids look up to him, even at his age of 19. Is it possible that that changes as he spends time in the NBA? Yes, but I don't think it will happen while spending time in the gym with Arenas (any moreso than spending time with knuckleheads who spent their first seasons with very little work ethic- NY, Blatche, McGee...)

I am sure that Wall has had a chance to pick up far worse influences than Arenas, and as far as we know he has not. If he had the potential to get side-tracked I think there would be some evidence of it already.

Improving his jump shot can only help Wall's game. Based on what I've heard about Wall, I agree that Arenas' offensive focus is unlikely to sway Wall. Stevenson spent a lot of time w/ Arenas, and he still played hard defense. Wall may look up to Arenas somewhat, or he may not, but Wall will come in as the #1 pick, the closest thing Arenas has had to an equal since his first year w/ the Wizards, and likely the clear #1 on the team very soon, if not immediately. Who knows? Maybe the important influence will be that which Wall has on Arenas.

Arenas is a scorer first and he treasurers nothing more than getting the ball in the basket. I don't see arenas sitting with wall for hours and dissecting the top playoff teams defenses and evolving strategies of his point guard to beat it. Gil will tranform wall into next arenas...which means wall will be a lot closer to kobe bryant at the end of day instead of the floor general outsmarting top team defensive schemes.
Arenas has excellent character but he values scoring over schematically outsmarting his opponent. That mentality works great for a scorer but a point guard has to value attacking all the weak points of a top level defense with great passes. This component of wall's brain won't be developed by arenas while they both duel it out for countless hours shooting competitve horse..or three point contest.
Wall may emerge has the best one one offensive player in the game but his basketball iq for how adjust a play on the fly to attack a defensive adjustment will be extremely weak. I don't see arenas and wall sitting in the office for hours studying other teams defenses and drawing up complex plays to attack the best defenses. This would probably happen if wall and jason kidd were together..or wall and steve nash...maybe even wall and d williams/sloan influence....but definitely not wall arenas. Arenas is a scorer not the guy who understand nuances of what the weak points are on thib defense and what passes to make...what an individual players weakness is ect. Gil isn't a cerebral guy...he is more of doer that reacts...he is spontaneous and on the fly creative...but doesn't sit down and pre mediate how to attack...which is wall needs to do..to reach his full potential as a point guard. Cassell a shoot first point guard isn't going to help that much either. Right now wall is a passfirst gifted scorer--but his mentality won't be rewarded--with cassell and arenas---they both value hitting the big shot--versus improving the basketball iq of the players u are leading. Wall has to start of with the authoirty to guide his players to the correct points since he is the primary. All handler..but arenas...when he was point guard...stuck to his gift of scoring...and wasn't nearly as effective when we ask him to be a passer and stop trying to lead the league the league in points scored...
Arenas is a gifted scorer and not many guards have the ability to lead the league in scoring..we were fortunate to even have a player on the roster with that gift. We asked arenas to ignote his gift and instead be a floor general which means to arenas..make your extremely rare gift of scoring...and set your team mates up. Wall'4 gift right now is that he naturally sets up his team mates coming out of college. Arenas naturally scores. Wall is extremely young right now...and his playing style can easily lose the ability to set up his teammates because he is such an explosive athlete. It is important that he is in a situation that fosters his floor general skills..just as it hurt arenas to push him to be a floor general when he is gifted at getting the ball in the bucket. In summary..we need wall to develop his floor general iq skills and this won't happen with gil because gil is monster when it comes to scoring. Gil will do all he can to make wall the best player possible but gil's ego makes gil think he is a floor general instead of one the most gifted scorers in the league. This cockiness of gil thinking he is point guard when he is a shooting guard will cause gil to transfer shooting guard tendencies...to wall instead of floor general traits of a point guard such as nash d will and kidd in his prime. Will wall be able ignore arenas well intended teachings and still develop his strategic basketball intellectual iq..or will he trust arenas and eventually turn into another gifted scorer leading the league in scoring but not spending hours a day diagnosing and game planning against the top ranked defenses and their mid game adjustments.
So no I have no worry about gil character...gil is a shooting guard mentally...but won't admit that he is only an averaged iq for a point guard..and that he doesn't spend hours studying game film...he spends hours..shooting threes..which is why he is one of the corers shooting guards in the league.

Speaking of fresh starts I am not sure how he and Biche are still employed by the organization. Although that could change when Leonsis takes over officially.

Seriously, I am holding-out hope that Ed Tapscott will be fired; but it appears as-though Ted is not the firing kind of guy. Ted could get the word to certain people that they will not be kept-on, but none of that appears to have happened yet and there hasn't been any good reporting on who stays or go's.
