15 and 9 next to Gasol is more than a serviceable center, he would start on any team not named Orlando. You can go ahead and name off all the teams in the league, he'll start for EVERY one of them. (not ORL)

I would have a hard time starting him in Chicago, NJ, Milwuakee, Memphis, or Atlanta.

I'd move all those Centers to PF and start Bynum

They're getting Bosh. Reason enough for a older team. They need to maximize their chances while their window's still open. And yeah, it doesn't help that Bynum's injury prone and Phil's probably tired of him.

But compared to the other deals out there for Bosh, this is still the one I prefer.

This would probably be the best deal talent wise if Bynum isn't damaged goods. Even with risk involved, he's probably the best choice. I'm just really questioning why the Lakers would do it. They become quite a bit smaller and softer inside. Being intimidating around the basket is something I really haven't seen out of Bosh, or Gasol for that matter, but with Bynum and Gasol, that is a lot of size to finish over, I see that changing if they get Bosh. Plus how much ball is there to go around? You have Kobe, Gasol who manhy are calling the best big man in the game. So where does that leave Bosh as an offensive option? If Bynum is healthy, he is by far the better fit to me.

surprisingly, bynum and pau aren't that great of a fit together. spacing is really compromised when they are both on the floor. pau's midrange jump shot is good, but certainly not good enough for him to play the high post ala bosh. on the defensive end, they're simply too slow. pau does not have the foot speed of traditional pf's, and the pick n roll defense suffers. i think both pau and bynum would be way better with bosh next to them.

Thanks for clearing this up, there seems to be some misconception that since Bosh and Gasol are both slender they play exactly the same way.

i don't know about factions, but you are correct that its been a long existing belief that bynum is jim buss' golden pick and probably is what you would call the "keep bynum" faction. as far as the "trade bynum" faction, i don't think one really exists. phil, as you may have seen in many reports, has his own future with the team to worry about. if i had to pick a "trade bynum" team, i'd start with bynum's agent, david lee. why? who knows, but he's evil.

I see. It just seems so puzzling that the Lakers would even consider such a move, when their big man rotation is already among the best in the league (and imo arguably the best, given the flexibility that Pau brings by being able to play PF or C), and they have far more pressing areas of concern (PG, general bench play.)

I understand that Phil and Kobe really like Bosh...but they have no real power within the Lakers org. So pretty much a headscratcher for me.

Kobe held the team hostage when he wasn't even winning ball games...Kobe has a lot of power, he may not be able to veto trades or make the final call but he can be a prick like he was in 2007.

Bosh will be an upgrade and under contract for a longer period of time, and will work better offensively and defensively than Bynum. Getting him also means Lebron or Wade don't get him and the Lakers set themselves up for multiple titles until Kobe is done or someone gets hurt. It's not rocket surgery.

After watching the PHX/LAL series so far, I've never seen someone so disinterested and out of shape then Bynum. The guy turned down working with HOFers last off season because he wanted to go backpacking across europe. The guys mentality is a question, but he still is our best option.

Just a warning T.O fans, he has no ambition.

Because Bynum is worse, more injury prone, and more immature than Bosh. Doesn't seem that puzzling to me.

But that is stupid reasoning. Who cares what LeBron and Wade do...Wade in particular is not going to win a thing in Miami with only 56 million in salary, with or w/o Bosh.
Lakers need to do what is best for themselves as a team, not make shortsighted, reactive moves. In any case, Bosh, LeBron and Wade all appear relatively likely to stay in the Eastern conference...Lakers shouldn't give a damn what they do unless a powerhouse is built in the West. Given that CB has shown limited inclination to go to OKC or HOU, those issues you raise seem like red herrings

If Bosh wants to leave, then Bynum is probably our best bet. BUT.....

If BC does aquire a center and move Bargs to PF, then it will be an admission of guilt by BC. An admission that he never actually tried to build around Bosh properly. Because if u wanted to build around Bosh properly, he would have gotten a decent center to play with him. (yes he got JO, who I thought fit well with Bosh, it was the guys that surrounded them that sucked) And now by moving our "center" Bargnani to power forward, he's admitting that Bargs wasn't a proper center next to Bosh.

BC lied this whole time. Almost every move he made was to placate Andrea, not Bosh. From loading this team with international players early on to make it easier on him, to firing Sam because he and Andrea did not see eye to eye, to way overpaying for Jose because it seemed like ha and Bargs had good chemistry the first 2 season, to trading away JO the minute Bargs showed marginal improvement, to resigning Triano just because Andrea seemed to like playing for him. It's all been about Bargs since day 1, not Bosh, and now the truth is finally revealed.

i believe bynum's injuries have been a constant concern brought up this entire time? seems kinda unfair to then call him disinterested and out of shape when he's out there trying to battle through an injury that requires surgery.

about the lakers motivations: team getting old, window not that big, bosh is already established and not trying to prove himself, bosh fits pretty well.

their hesitation is probably completely related to money. if they win it all, it'll be chemistry as well.

Bynum has potential, Bosh is established. Lakers just signed Kobe to 30 mill a year that window is now. Lakers with Bosh are better now and have the next franchice player lined up, not hoping on potential

First of all, you ignored the little first sentence at the beginning of my post. Secondly, of course they care what Lebron and Wade do if either of them teams up with Bosh. If Bosh goes to Miami, or Chicago or NY with either Lebron or Wade, that team will be a few minor and easy moves away from being in the running for a title every single season. Direct competition for the Lakers. So the idea of a Bosh for Bynum deal is not only to make the Lakers a better team, but to prevent the competition from getting significantly better. Hardly red herrings.

I ignored the first sentence because it is arguable how much of an upgrade it is, for reasons already stated.

Regarding the second point...in case I wasn't clear...who gives a damn what LeBron and Wade do in the Eastern Conference, with only 56 million in salary? Should the Magic spend next season retooling to counter OKC or the Suns?
Even a purported LeBron+Bosh powerhouse team still has to get to the ECF... pre-emptively game-planning such a team would be foolish. You worry about getting to your own conference finals first, rather than worrying about how the finals might play out. This is why your concern is a red herring...unless Wade+Bosh meet up say in Dallas, or something.

 if you honestly believe Colangelo thinks like that.

Most of that's just rehashed crap from the board, but this is the first time I've seen someone blame Andrea for Jose's extension.

BTW JO wasn't happy here from the very beginning. Things got so bad in November that they were already looking to move him by December (before Bargnani "broke out").
