Peks buyout

Post#1 » by tvwolves7 » Tue May 25, 2010 6:19 pm

Agent says Nikola Pekovic's buyout with Panathinaikos is worth $5 million.

Twitter is blocked for me at work. It is from HoopHype's so take it with a grain of salt. This seems higher then I would have thought.

I think there's a decimal missing.

$0.5 million

Everytime they mention the buyout, they usually attach the word "affordable". 5 mil doesn't seem that affordable.

Contracts are not released for the EL but everytime his contract is discussed they say "affordable".

And occasionally even "very affordable".

That can't be correct, he was making just over 2 million dollars a year. The three year deal was worth a total of ~6 million, no way it had a 5 million dollar buyout in the third year. I think someone screwed up converting euros to dollars.

I dig some digging, it should be at most 616,000 Dollars. The buyouts seem to range from 300k to 500k euros over there.

Kahn when asked if the Pekovic 5 mil. buyout report is bogus said "Yes."

Thanks for this. This puts his Panathinaikos salary (1.3 mil Euros) at Between 1.7 and 1.8 million US Dollars (depending on the exchange rate), tax free.

The equivalent salary, as of Jan 1 2011, will be between 3.4 and 3.64 million $US, before taxes.
(Tax rate will be 49.35%. 39.6% federal + 1.9% new health care tax + 7.85% state income tax).

NBA teams can only pay 500k towards a buyout, so I expect his buyout is around that number since it is an NBA-specific buyout clause.

We are looking at paying him probably a minimum of 3.5 mil per season plus the buyout for him to come over this offseason.

Peko was dominant in the paint, but Europe isn't the NBA.

BTW, Olympiakos 0/23 3pts, and Teodosic 0/6. If Rubio does something like this, ...

Thanks for stats. Not only is it fun to see Childress (and a Scoonie Penn sighting!), but how about stats that come with their own TENDEX? Poor Josh, at 0.031 so far.

I thought this was funny. Some random poster on rubechat e-mailed Pekovic's agent pretending to be a scout for the Jazz and asked what his buyout was. Apparently it's 1 million dollars.
