Johnny Flynn scouting report?

Post#1 » by Butter » Tue May 25, 2010 11:32 pm

During last years draft, Flynn was one of the draft day surprises for me. I liked him, but I didn't expect him to go so high. It seemed like many Wolves fans thought he would/will become a franchise PG. Once in awhile I would monitor this board to see how Wolves fans felt about him. Throughout the year, it seemed like some fans had cooled on their excitement for this kid.

How do Wolves fans rate him now? Is he what you expected? If not, does he just need some time to develop? Did the coach/system have a positive or negative effect on him? Will he live up to the hype?

Disclaimer: I'm not some trolling fan who wants to throw out some lowball trade offer, just a b-ball fan whose interested in your opinions.

A lot of people were down on him at the end of the season. However, I think he'll be fine. He just needs time, not only to learn how to run the offense, but also to build chemistry with the players around him. On defense he has the most room to improve. He's often far too stationary and upright when guarding on the ball, and often gets lost defending the pick and roll. On the positive side, he is a far better shooter than any of us probably thought going into the season. Eventually, that should only help allow him take advantage of his athleticism, quickness, and playmaking skills once Rambis takes the training wheels off. I'm excited to see where he goes from here.

Rubio and Flynn would be a great 1-2 punch (no, they shouldn't play shooting guard). I just think Flynn could bring a lot of energy off the bench.

For all the people worrying that K Love will want to leave. Don't you think Flynn should be the guy that most wants to leave? Rubio is penciled in at his spot. Flynn here will be at most Nate Robinson, and he knows it!

Unless of course Flynn sucks so bad that we just don't care what he wants to do.

I think his ceiling is a Jameer Nelson-type PG.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
