Well, that is somewhat true, but it is actually not that hard to pass the ball to Nowitzki.

Could you imagine Dirk and Kobe together? Dirk and Bron? CP3? Nash again? Honestly I hope he gets another guy to go with him, it would be a shame if he didn't.

Yeah, pair him up with someone else who can create his own shot and is consistent enough to be a #1 option and that would a really nice team. James/Nowitzki would be an improved version of Bryant/Gasol imho. I would love to see a playoffs series between the Lakers and a team around James/Nowitzki. The Lakers have Odom and Artest as defenders against those two, I can imagine that would be epic. Too bad the chances that something like this will happen are really small.

Well, the reason is that the guy who gives the ball to Nowitzki into the midpost area will get an assists, even though Nowitzki is getting his shot open by himself. It is just the way the assists are given out. Nowitzki isn't moving his feet, thus the pass to him counts as an assists.

Yeah I think that's a good point. To me the assist % is really meaningful for 1) inside scorers - because they are dependent on good passers, and 2) role players - because they're being given the ball to shoot due to being open.

A star scorer who tends to shoot from outside is pretty easy to get the ball to, and is rarely going to have his shot uncontested.

Man, Melo really fell off the face of the earth. He was top five in per-minute scoring with a TS% better than .600 these past two years, iirc.

Gotta go with LeBron, Dirk, and Kobe as the top 3 for this year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this only means that the LBJ played 45 games that had 5 minutes left with one team only 5 points away from the other, while Kobe played 28. It says nothing of their individual performances.

Unless of course, you think David West (50 games) and Aaron Brooks (46 games) are more clutch than LBJ, or that Iggy and Beno Udrih are comparable to LBJ.

Chris Paul's clutch stats are always so yummy Near 51%, 42% from downtown, and 89% from the line. Only guy in the top 10 for points that is shooting 50%. Only 11% assisted too, love it!

Dirk's 98% FT shooting there is impressive.

Nash is insane. 43 points is great and puts him in the top five, but 13.4 assists as well? Thats awesome.
