Forget Aldrich, We Need Monroe
The more I study the players in the draft, the more I think the Jazz need to find some way to move up and get Greg Monroe. He does everything this team needs. Rebounds well, has good hands, blocks shots, and from everything I've read, is a good team chemistry/high IQ player with a strong work ethic who genuinely wants to improve his game. He's the type of guy who I think would thrive in our system. Plus, he's big enough to play at the 5.
Some have criticized him for playing too soft at times, but I attribute that more to a lack of maturity than anything else. The guy's only 19 years old.

Guilty as charged! I've talked about Monroe's ugly and extreme softness more than once...
He does look picture perfect running thru the motions and passing the rock... but that won't get his job done for the Jazz.
I'm aware he's 19, and undoubtely he's got such a huge set of skills that it would be hard to not consider him at 9, but I think Jazz need some more grit inside and contributionas almost right off the bat.
That said, it's not like I'd be pucking if they pick him...

But who is there in the draft outside of Wall or Turner who could come come in and immediately contribute? I feel like every player has some shortcomings that will manifest themselves during their rookie season. I just think that out of all the players that the jazz actually have a shot to get, Monroe is the safest bet.

Re: Forget Aldrich, We Need Monroe
Well, as I don't expect Okur back for a while I think Aldrich would come in and start for us.
There is also a good chance we could get a backup PF who could see significant minutes. I won't complain if we get Monroe or Davis. Heck, even some of the other folks I could live with.

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

There is no way in hell Monroe will be there at 9.
We should feel really really good if Aldrich is. He is a defensive Chris Kaman.

I think Monroe could definitely be there at 9. He most likely wont workout well and it would take a team ahead of us who is enamored to take him. I think we need to hope that Whiteside and Ed Davis start shooting up boards and then we can have our take of Monroe or Aldrich.

The Jazz starting Power Forward is Millsap now that Boozer is gone for sure. Why do we need another PF??? AK-47 can back up PF (Millsap) and SF (Miles) and Kosta has to get sometime at PF. The Jazz need to to trade into the top three or do what I said they needed to do last year which is trade the much over-rated pick to a team like GSW with Memo for Biedrens or to Denver for a Nene type player.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

The problem with 99% of what you say is that there is no relevance to it.

What??? Monroe is a PF and Jazz dont need a PF or a very under-sized center. He fits the system but is not a need player. Turner or a trade using the pick for tough defensive center is what is needed. By your comment it simply proves your not intelligent!!!

Re: Forget Aldrich, We Need Monroe
As much as I love Udoh and Aldrich the more I am starting to agree that the Jazz need to land Monroe.
Monroe is really starting to look like the 3rd to 5th best player in this draft right now with potential on top of that. Does everything the Jazz need and will help right away.

Re: Forget Aldrich, We Need Monroe
I'd be happy with either one. If both are there @ 9 I'd say go with Monroe. He is the better player,
but Aldrich is nothing to sniff at. I don't think we should move up to get Monroe, unless we are convinced through workouts he's our guy. Otherwise just wait and see if he slides a
few to us, and if he doesn't take Cole or BPA available.

Re: Forget Aldrich, We Need Monroe
I'd like to see Monroe as well. A concern for me is does he have enough offensive game. Without the offensive game, his passing skills become much less important. If he can become good enough to make teams double him, then his passing ability makes him significantly more valuable.

And I think his offensive game will come with time. Remember, he's not even 20 yet. Even though the jazz have a poor history at developing big men, I think he could develop a respectable offensive game.

Re: Forget Aldrich, We Need Monroe
Reality Bath:
- Jazz starting five, RIGHT NOW, is Williams, Matthews, Kirilenko, Millsap, Koufos
- Jazz reserves, RIGHT NOW, are Price, Miles, Okur (HUGE INJURY, out for most next season probably...)
That's it. No one knows what will happen with Boozer, Korver, Fesenko, Gaines, Jeffers or what free agency will bring.
Draft night occurs before any other FA move or even FA talk... so ANY help KOC can bring via draft to this roster would have to be welcome.
Draft is draft... you can pick the "safe" dude and get screwed up anyways, or you can pick the "risky" guy and end up with a perennial all-star... you never know...

They need length and athleticism on the front line, forget the position for one second you tool. You say we dont need a PF but in the very same sentence said Boozer is gone for sure. Doesnt that mean at the very least we need to replace him? And more importantly, it means we are even SHORTER at PF than before.....therefore we need LENGTH at the PF also. Get it through your head...you draft the best player available, you dont take a stiff just because you can call him a center. We've made that mistake many times before.

There is no way that Detroit does not take Monroe at 7 if he is there.
