First Jim Gray, now Bill Walton

Are we trying to hire the entire NBA on NBC crew from a few years ago?

Is Marv Albert next?

Hall of Fame center Bill Walton is joining the Kings broadcast crew on a limited basis. Walton, who has suffered from debilitating back pain the last several years, is feeling well enough to work approximately 5-10 games for the Kings. According to Kings co-owner Joe Maloof, Walton will be added to the telecasts for the Kings games in Los Angeles, the LeBron James visit to Sacramento - regardless of which team the coveted free agent signs with - and could provide additional commentary from a local station near his home in San Diego. Walton becomes the second high-profile announcer added to the Kings broadcast team within the past few weeks. Previously, Jim Gray was hired to work a 20-game schedule.

"We'll start out slow and see how Bill handles it," Joe Maloof said Wednesday afternoon. "If he feels he can travel and wants to do more, that would be fine. He can offer commentary, join Grant (Napear) and Jerry (Reynolds) on the telecast for a quarter, do some reporting. We thought this was a great opportunity to add a Hall of Famer to our crew and have some fun."

That is soooo, soooo weird. Why would he take a job with the Kings? The world wants to see him nationally. The world LOVES Bill Walton. I don't understand this, but anything to hear him back on the airwaves is fine by me. I don't know how he'll fit with Grant and Jerry, but this certainly makes things interesting.

I'll be honest though. I was kind of hoping we were hiring him as our new big man coach.

How did I play last night coach?

Image
Spencer your performance last night of 11 points on 4 of 9 shooting with 5 rebounds, and 2 assists was one of the great performances we'll ever see in our lifetime!

Image
Well okay, thanks. But what about the three times I got blocked? I mean two of the blocks were by Anthony Carter. That can't be good, I--

Image
The dual of wits and strengths between Spencer Hawes and Anthony Carter is a pure marvel for the eyes! It was goliath against goliath. A battle historians will discuss with Bird and Dominique, Wilt and Russel, and the works of William Shakespeare!

*sigh*
Thanks coach.

This is fantastic. The kings are going out getting guys to help usncreate some buzz around the product we are putting on the floor. Walton is one of the iconic voices of our sport. I can't wait to hear him saying that phrase about our bigs. I doubt he announces during the laker games simply due to biases but for the most part this is a fantastic move for our team.

So let's see:
gray
Walton
top 5 pick
rookie of the year
tons of capspace
yeah I think the kings will have a few nationally televised games.

The only thing we are missing to really amp up our efforts is a legit big mans coach to teach our boys team defense and toughness.

Bill Walton, huh? Well that makes those 5 to 10 games just that much more interesting. I mean I've never really liked the guy to be honest, but he's funny - no doubt.

Replacing Cheryl Miller with Kayte Christensen - UPGRADE!
Replacing Kayte Christensen with Jimy Gray - Diaspointing....
Bringing in Bill Walton....
......
........
From the mouth of dicky v --> "Are you kidding me? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?"

Seriously what are they thinking about bringing in a guy that most kings fan hate with a passion, did they forget when he called the kings and their fans a "cry baby" when we complained about the fouls in the lakers/kings play-off games when we got shafted by the refs...

But honestly - What a joke ... " back injury" get this guy out of here... His announcing career is going to be like his nba career ... INJURY PRONE - and seriously how hard is it to sit in a chair and talk about basketball for 2 hours... give me a break

Ill cut this one short because I could go on all night about how much I hate Bill Walton - but ill leave it on this note - The only thing more annoying then his voice is his (no offense) "come out of the closet " obsession with Kobe and the Lakers.

Doubt we can get Marv away from the Knicks and Nets broadcasts.

I can see it in the SacBee now, "BREAKING NEWS ALERT: Bill Walton will not make the road trip due to an unexpected injury."

Wow, this is pretty cool! The Kings already had the best TV of any team hands down and this cements it. Gray was a great pick up but I'm really digging this one. At least the hard losses will be a riot with Jerry and Bill doing color! hahaha.

Wow...just vile undeserved hatred.

Yeah, Bill has said some things about the Kings. Bill says things about lots of people. The idea is to not take him seriously.

Yea, what mitch said, the idea is not to take him seriously, but with even that, Bill Walton is just a guy you either LOVE or HATE. His kind of humor is not for everyone.
