OT - Rudy Fernandez unhappy in Portland

"It hasn't been a good season and I'm not happy with the role I've had in Portland this season,” he said.

“What I want is to play, whether it's in the NBA, Europe or China.

“I love basketball and I have fun playing on the court.”

Fernandez, who lost good friend Sergio Rodriguez as a teammate in Portland when he left for Sacramento before being traded to the New York Knicks, added: "My role in Portland is very different to the one I have in the national team.

“Basically there, I have been left in a corner to make three-pointers."

Portland's actually looking to move up this draft.

The possibility of Rudy Fernandez for our 13th pick could be there.

Not sure if I would do that.

He's a slightly better Marco Belinelli.

But if we get him Andrea + Marco and Jose + Rudy can go on double dates!

He's much, much better than Belinelli. He's much more creative, he shoots better, and defends better.

I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

He has the same issues though. Sometimes he'll disappear and he won't be effective enough offensively to make an impact.

He doesn't seem to have much of a mid-range game at all and he isn't a terrific slasher (he's good, but Belinelli can be a "good" slasher at times also).

He just seems like a more athletic, better shooting version of Belinelli.

I'd rather the mystery box, unless Portland's pick is coming too.

Except he can dunk like a slammer.

I don't know, Rudy needs to be on a team where he could be given a pre-All Star Bellinelli role.

I always thought he'd be a nice fit in Atlanta, but then they got a superior sixth man in Crawford.

Depends on who's there at 13 and 22. I'd like to make that trade after pick 21. Portland probably would like it made before pick 13 though.

well my thinking was. You move down and take a Whiteside/Alabi/Sanders/Serpahin/Maybe even Orton

so you get a big man + a wing.

Jack / Calderon / Banks
Derozan / Rudy / Belinelli
Hedo / Weems

would be the wing rotation and whatever happens with bosh we could still get a good PF/C i dont think theres a drastic difference from #13 to #22

Just checked the stats and they back up my qualms completely.
He has absolutely no mid-range game and only shot 37.8% this year from the field. That's terrible.

He basically disappears for long stretches and is very inconsistent.

Dime a dozen chucking scrub like Belinelli.

Never mind trading a top 15 pick for him... anyone think we can get a top 15 pick for Belinelli?

Didn't think so.

Meh. I like Rudy, but I wouldn't move down with our lotto pick to get him. If we could work a decent trade with guys on our roster I'd be ok with it.

Personally, I'm sick of having a glut mediocre wings. We can hang onto Weems and DeRozan, since there's still potential and they're on affordable deals. The next wing added to this team has to have 20PPG potential, period. The rest of the league has this.

Yup, exactly like Belli. He'd want to be a creator, no matter what. Even if it meant being on a losing team. Tons of turnovers. Basically these guys want free reign to use their full skillset. But on any given team, those roles are given to the #1 or #2 options. Or else the actual PG.

Another thing I've noticed about Fernandez is that he's a malcontent who likes to use the Spanish media to cry about his situation... like Turk complaining to the Turkish media about his woes, rather than keeping things in-house.

Lousy attitudes these guys have.
