Just curious, what's the likelihood of Darko coming back?

Post#1 » by Curtis Lemansky » Sat May 29, 2010 6:47 pm

Hey there,

I looked around a bit but couldnt find any useful info on Darko. He was pretty determined to go back to Europe when he came to Minnesota but he found playing time and probably for the first time he enjoyed his stay in NBA. So how do you guys see the likelihood of him coming back?

It's tough to say. Us being at #4 complicates things. I think he fits well but we'll have to follow our other offseason moves. Right now I'd say 50/50.

50/50 sounds about right. When he left, he indicated he wanted to come back to Minny. Rambis liked him and he liked playing next to Jefferson. However, the Wolves have potentially Darko coming back, Pekovic coming over, Cousins being drafted, and Jefferson and Love returning next year. At least two of those guys will likely be gone. Just too much of a puzzle at this point to guess.

I would say 80-20. We believe he is a good fit with (potentially) Cousins and he brings a lot of the skills we want for this team. We are meeting with him soon, but I am hearing good things.

All the above, but this time of year 90% of what you hear is smoke screen.

I have heard some Al buzz, and buzz on late 1st rd ideas.

I don't think it will matter as much with personel as it will with how much he wants and for how long. If he wants the 5 for three years, we can't take him back. If he takes Ryan Hollins type of money...then we'd be silly not to take him back. He doesn't have to start...if they are up front with him and he gets/earns solid minutes...he'll be happy, and he'll be productive. So assuming he's not asking for much...I say it's 100% he'll be gone. I also think Love will be gone on draft night as well.

Does this mean that the FO is leaning towards Cousins, or are you speaking more from the fanbase perspective?

I know you can't get into specifics so I won't bother but when you say buzz on late 1st round ideas, are you talking about players they want to draft there or trades for that pick?

In this case I was given 2 names. Prospects, not trades in this case. Our scouting has really stepped it up. Ronzone was a great hire.

Nice new sig rev. I'd steal it, but that'd be stealing.

YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, just nice to hear they're considering not selling or giving the pick away.

EDIT: I'm guessing this also means it's not just Euros that they're looking at here since there's only one projected to go anywhere near there that provides the team with something.

So basically you're saying we don't have to look forward to another Ebi pick at 23? Sounds good to me. It's refreshing that the organization is so new, exciting, and not-yet predictable. That "country club" theme seems like so long ago, when it's been hardly a year.

The two names I got were interesting. Both wings. Neither are euros. I was asked my opinion on them and I knew one of them pretty well but I red-flagged the other guy. It feels weird to have a scouting department that we trust.

Honestly, I was all for packing the pick to move up until that discussion.

I wonder if this is Landesberg. The other maybe Hobson? Landesberg is a guy I could see us developing. He has a little Roy to his game. Not very athletic, but smooth and someone that could be a steal in the second round, or who could pop up in the late first.
