Monta Ellis

Post#1 » by saloonyk8 » Fri May 28, 2010 4:51 pm

What do you guys think of Ellis?

In particular as a replacement for Johnson if he walks and we get nothing in FA.

I'm sure GS would entertain offers since I don't think Curry and him fit well together.

Any way to get him without trading Josh Smith? While I'd love to offer Marvin and Bibby I don't think GS has any interest there.

To remake our roster...Ellis/Biedrins for Josh Smith and MWilliams/Bibby works in trade checker. Assuming Biedrins rebounds it would be a good trade for us.

I think he's entertaining but I don't see fielding a winning team with him.

Monta Ellis was on my short draft board along with Louis Williams as our second round picked. I believe HoopsGuru25 also supported drafting Monta Ellis. My biggest issue was that he needed to be more patient with the ball and develop range. I like a point guard with range and while Monta lacks it, he has slowly been developing the range.

Golden State can probably get a better offer. I believe the offer that involved O.J. Mayo was legit, so how are we suppose to beat that?

I was thinking of him as a too short 2 guard with defensive liabilities. As a PG I see just don't see him passing enough, but he'd be an upgrade at PG for us.

HMFFL, what was that Memphis rumor?

I believe it was Mayo and Thabeet for Ellis. I thought for sure GS would take that, but apparently they passed.

Hes a ballhog. I dont know how he would fit in a real offense but I doubt it would go very well. I say no.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

SnT Joe for Monta.

Joe/Curry would be amazing.

Monta/Crawford would be okay, espeically with Crawford's PG skills.

it would be an okay trade, for the sake of the Hawks not leaving empty handed when Joe leaves. Monta/Crawford could work out, and if it doesn't, u could always trade him for Thabeet

He definitely has the talent to be productive, but he has never shown the mindset it takes to sacrifice for the sake of being on a winner. It's a tossup. We have a couple of solid vets on the team in Bibby and Horford, but I don't think he could co-exist with Josh Smith. They both are seemingly volatile and at times immature.

But yes. With our team and (hopefully) with a veteran coach on our bench we might be able to get him to keep his mouth closed and play ball. It would be VERY risky, though.

This didn't exactly work out when the two of them were in GS before. Monta and Crawford as our starters would be a disaster. Rarely do two offenisve minded ballhogs who don't play defense play well together in the same backcourt. If you thought JJ looked aloof and jealous at times when J Crawford was leading the offense, imagine how Monta Ellis might act out in the same scenario.

I concur. Complete disaster. Could you imagine how bad our defense would be?

Wow, even if Thabeet turns out to be worthless, which I now firmly believe he will be (based on a simple tweeter summary I read in Bill Simmons mailbag), that would have been a great deal for the Warriors. Mayo would fit great beside Curry and give them a do over on Ellis's contract. I think the Warriors are too much in flux to make any real moves.

It was reported a couple days ago that Monta Ellis purchased a house in Memphis for his fiancee that was once owned by Lorenzen Wright. It's not like this means Monta will be traded to Memphis, but it makes me believe he'd be open to it, so we'll see what happens this off-season.

With Don Nelson having only 1 yr left, and the impending sale of the team, I do not believe GS makes any key moves (e.g. trading Ellis, Biedris, Maggette, etc) unless it brings them back short and/or expiring contracts.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
