I think that Pippen is clearly the more talented player and could do a lot more than reggie on the court. Pippen is easily a top 5 defender at the very least of the 90s and possibly ever. The thing that reggie has is that he was able to be the number one guy on several really good teams. Pippen never had that opportunity (except for one season) so its really hard to compare. But from a pure talent perspective I would say Pippen is better but I would rather have Reggie on my team because of the intangibles that he had.

I'm a huge Pacer fan, but it's Pippen and I don't think it's close. They did completely different things so I don't know that the particular Pacer teams that had so much playoff success in the 90s would have been as good with Pippen swapped for Reggie. However, those teams were built around Reggie and if the same had been done to highlight Pippen's strengths then I think he could have been just as successful.

Pippen.

There's a player comparison board on RealGM that you can try.

Reggie Miller had some of the most astounding moments in playoff history, and he could shoot the lights out, but Pippen could literally do everything, especially defense (led the league inn steal one year) and he could rebound, pass, block the occasional shot, and sink the open three. He was one of the best two-way players his position had ever seen.

Pippen was a better player than Reggie and anyone does not think so does not know anything about basketball. Pippen was better at everything besides shooting (and apparently personal finance.) BTW, Reggie is my all time favorite player.

It cracks me up when people make statements like this. Pippen is better all-around, Reggie was better in the clutch and a better shooter.

I think I said Reg was a better shooter, obviously a better clutch player. However this topic was who was a better player. It's Pippen no question.

As much as I love Reggie, it's Pippen in every aspect apart from shooting.

who was better, Pippen or Derek McKey? you'll find insiders who'll argue that Derek would have been as highly regarded as Pippen if he's played with MJ.

Reggie was a much more valuable player than Pippen. Scottie was a role player who fit his team's needs perfectly ... and part of the credit for that probably goes to Jordan too for helping to define the role that was available.

Pippen was just as good without Jordan. To call Pippen a role player is to call Kareem a role player to Magic Johnson.

Reggie is my all-time favorite player.

However, if I'm building a team... Pippen.

Miller.
Pippen was a better athlete and better defender, but he proved late in his career that he couldn't lead a team (be it CHI or POR). Also, he was a complete prick to Barkley in HOU after they worked so hard to bring Pippen in there at Barkley's behest.

Building a team, I need a leader first, then I'll add the athletic talent around him.

If you don't thin Pippen was a role player, when was he the best player on his team? Maybe CHI post Jordan, but if that's the case why did they hand the big moments to Kukoc?

To be fair, when Larry Brown got McKey he said he was a top 5 player in the league at the time. McKey came off to me as just being very lazy and uninterested. The only time I seen any emotion out of the guy was half a smile when Smits hit that buzzer beater over Tree Rollins.

McKey's career would have been viewed more favorably if he would have played next to MJ, but no way it would have surpassed Pippen's accomplishments. Pippen is still held in pretty high regard here in Portland. Add McKey to the same group of Trail Blazers and he becomes just one of the talented guys that played for those teams.

Reggie provided better memories, but Scottie was the better player.

pure skills = Pippen

intangibles/leadership = Reggie

Pippen played his role well, a role that I don't think Reggie could've fulfilled. Likewise I don't think Pippen could've fulfilled Reggie's role w/the Pacers.

Regardless ,both are HOF'ers so there is no questioning either's greatness.
