Is Darko the best to pair with Cousins?

Post#1 » by Dan's with the Wolves » Sun May 30, 2010 10:21 pm

Who would be the best player to pair with Cousins in the frontcourt?

Cousins/Jefferson Best Interior Scoring, relatively poor defense

Cousins/K Love Best Inside/Outside Scoring Balance, relatively poor defense

Cousins/Darko Balanced Inside/Outside Scoring Balance, Best Defensive match

I would vote Cousins/Darko.

That makes both Love and Jefferson available as trade assets

Darko may not be the best player, but he is the most versatile of the four. I like his superior size, superior mobility, superior passing and superior shot blocking.

Just like last year. The best starting tandem was Jefferson/Darko. Next Year it will be Cousins/Darko.

I tend to think of big men in the 3 man rotation sense.

So what is the best 3 man group out of love/Al/Cousins/Darko/Pekovic.

I think Darko/Cousins is your foundation, but who is the 3rd big? Love/Pek/Al?

Who can we get the best value for in a trade? I could handle a Darko/Cousins/Pek 3 man group if we feel Love/Al gets the best value. (Elite SF)

I went with Jefferson/Darko - I could see it being Cousins/Darko, but I didn't see him play enough to feel confident predicting his success.

I don't know still about Darko I am still on the fence, not the biggest fan of KLove but I am going to say him and Boogie.

Al is nice and would love to keep him but I think trading Al is our best option for a good wing player.

I would vote for an athletic 4 or 3/4 that can defend the stretch fours better than the others.

How many of these same types of threads do we need?

That's what I was thinking. This must be the fourth or fifth since the lottery.

I think it depends on what we would get for Love/ Al.

I voted Cousins and Jefferson, for the simple reason that tandem has the most potential to be GREAT offensivly. Who knows about Darko these days.. I hope he comes back, but hes not too reliable as a starter over the long haul. BUT, with the Al/Cuz pair we could counter their reliable offense with defensive minded bench players like Milicic and Udoh. That group of 4 would give us a great blend of size/length/scoring/defense and passing. Once we improve our length/ defense and shooting on the outside we could be looking at a complete playoff caliber lineup.

Hey, I'm guessing you're referring to my threads this weekend, maybe not.

I prefer specific threads.

I can't stand those long thread that wonder from here to fgdfgsdfg and back.

But in deference to Klomp and Krap, I'll curb my new topic.

Go with Cousins and Darko starting, and Pekovic and a 3/4 hybrid off the bench. A Beasley or Babbitt type of player is realistic although someone more athletic would be nicer.

I like Cousin/Love. Love went cold as the season went along, but early on he showed outside touch. I think he can be a great high/low combo w/ Cousins. Defensively, Cousins has to play to his size to make it work, but I think the offensive potential is off the charts

We need as many of these types of threads as it takes until this board knows what it wants. 8-)

Actually, it's pretty established that there are a variety of ways Kahn & Co. can take this, and we won't really know whats next until June 24th, AND we won't see a "phase 2" until training camp.
I've accepted that we aren't really going to figure out what the best option is, because we don't know exactly what we could get back for each player in trades. I think as long as we keep a few solid bigs and have a more balanced roster come training camp, I'll be happy. I'm out of school and bored, so the draft can't come soon enough.

I voted for Love Cousins BTW, mostly because it sounds funny.

Darko(9''4 standing reach) and Cousins(9"5) is awesome combo, if only Love could buy into that super sub role that would be the best rotation in the League in a few years.

But can't we figure out what we want in just one thread?

I think Love has said hes fine coming off the bench. He just wants to know what his role on the team is.

Rev -- have you really seen enough of Pek to feel comfortable with this? The couple times that I've watched him, I didn't see enough to make me comfortable. What do you (and others) believe he brings?

My 3 would be Darko, Cousins and Love. Wish I could include Jefferson, but just too frustrated with his defensive limitations and black hole offensive tendencies.

I think Pek would bring much of the positives that we would want next to those guys. He is strong, has good hands, is a decent passer. Very good finisher and has a nice BBIQ. He also hustles his butt off.

if we need to move 2 of love/Al/Pek then I want value. it does nothing for me to use Pek to move up in a draft or package unless we get something legit.

If our big man rotation was Darko/Cousins/Pek and a hybrid 3/4 I could really handle it. I have more doubts about Darko continuing his high play then Pekovic contributing. I would also be more concerned with him willing to take a 3rd big man bench role.

Pekovic had one of his best games with Pana in lasts night loss of his team, in front of Rabis. Rabis has Greek roots, and he also played there so he has the connections to get any infos that he wants for him.

I think the only bigs MN may get full value for right now is Love and whomever we take at 4.

Al will most likely improve after another season of recovery.
Pek was drafted two years ago, and I think MN probably realizes and values his potential more than any other team right now.
Darko is probably only valued by MN right now.
