Summer School: Gerald Wallace

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Mon May 31, 2010 2:12 am

We can create a thread for each player to discuss the things you would like to see the player work on over the summer and bring to the team next season. This isn't about their contract status or a bashing thread or love fest thread or a trade thread or a player comparison thread. Just a thread of improvement ideas.

Crash: Continued to take his game up a few notches getting better and better.

Crash started showing that nice little wrap around/behind his back dribble on his drive to deke his defender and get to the rim. I'd love to see him tighten that up in order to keep defenders guessing and have better ability to create his own shot. The only other thing I can think of it speed control. Crash is at his best when he is playing at 150mph but I think he would be more dangerous if he learnt to switch between 80-150mph during a game.

Tape of guys to study: Paul Pierce (for creating his own shot. Pierce uses small but precise and well thought moves in order to create room and shots for himself) and Dwayne Wade (learning to play at varying speeds).

What would you guys say?

I'd agree with what you just said, but I'd also like to see him become a better shooter still. He's done great at the FT line compared to his first few seasons here but his jumper and 3 are still pretty bad. When he's hitting the jumpers, he becomes pretty difficult to defend because he can get by guys with that lightning quick first step AND finish at the rim/draw the foul. It starts with the jumper.

We suck as a team at shooting, so really I'd say this about almost everyone at this point.

Love the Pierce and Wade suggestions. I'd like to see Gerald continue to ramp up his m2m skills, but he made big strides last season from the gambler that people mistakenly assumed was a good defender because he got blocks and steals.
