Jonny Flynn?
Hey Pacers fans, Bulls fan here...
**This only works with Ricky Rubio coming to the NBA in the 2010/2011 season**
Why don't the Pacers trade for Flynn (didn't see this poster before, could be blind though). The T'Wolves have Ricky Rubio and Ramon Sessions. The Pacers simply need a legit PG, which they don't have. T.J. Ford is ok, but not a superstar for years to come. This would be the time to get Flynn, he only did ok: 13.5 PPG & 4.4 APG. So you could trade for him.
10th overall for Jonny Flynn and 2nd Round (56).
Your lineup:
Flynn - TJ Ford
Rush - Jones - Lazar Hayward (2nd Round)
Granger - Dunleavy
Hansbrough - Murphy - [FA]
Hibbert - Foster
...then maybe sign a decent PF in the FA: Amir Johnson, Hakim Warrick, or Udonis Haslem come to mind. Possibly try to trade Murphy, good luck though!!

I don't understand all the Minnesota fans who are trying to convince people to trade for Flynn? You have no other upgrade at point guard and it's unknown if Ricky Rubio will ever play for that team. Some NBA insiders don't think he will.
I think Minnesota has a better chance of trading Rubio then Flynn.

I can understand that, but his value is too low right now. I think after a decent Summer camp and a little more time in the league, he might be more valuable to you.

I'm not a T'Wolves fan.
Why wouldn't you trade the 10th overall for Flynn? The dude was just the 6th overall pick last year. He prooved that he wasn't a total bust as well. Plus you could maybe get a 2nd out of the deal as well.
Maybe trade Brandon Rush and 10th overall for Jonny Flynn and 16th overall?
Then draft a SG with 16th overall?

I personally would do that trade, but I don't think there's any way Minnesota does it. Most people over value their young players, including us of course.

The chances of trading for Flynn are pretty slim. Trading for Ramon Sessions wouldn't be that difficult, however. Sessions, Jefferson and #16 for Ford and #10? I'm not a huge fan of taking on Jefferson, but coming to Indy and riding the pine behind Murphy until he starts passing may be just the spark he needs to start playing within a team game. It's a pretty spendy chance to take though.

You could maybe do Brandon Rush and 10th for Jonny Flynn, 23rd, and 56th.
With that 23rd pick you could draft: Jordan Crawford, Willie Warren, Daniel Orton, Avery Bradley, Dominique Jones, or Craig Brackins. With your normal 2nd draft PF. And with the 56th draft Dexter Pittman.
Lineup:
Flynn - TJ Ford
Crawford - D. Jones - [Head]
Granger - Dunleavy
Hansbrough - Murphy - Rookie
Hibbert - Foster - Pittman
...thats not bad.

Re: Jonny Flynn?
Rubio won't be coming over for the 2010/2011 season. The initial problem with Rubio's situation was the extremely high buyout in his contract, and due to the NBA ruling on teams paying for Euro buyouts, he would have to facilitate the buyout with his own money, essentially. What made this worse was the fact that he fell in the draft, therefore lowering his potential income due to the rookie scale.
To my knowledge, the buyout in his contract with Barcelona is severely reduced after two years (to the extent where the Wolves could do it, within the NBA rules). This summer, the buyout is still high.
Actually, as a Wolves fan I would probably do this, but I can't speak for other fans. The 10th pick puts us in the Xavier Henry / Paul George range, and a lot of Wolves fans covet them for good reason... they would be superb fits for us. Brandon Rush would also give us some immediate SG depth which is something we've lacked for a long time, and I for one am appreciative of anyone who can play palpable defense in a Wolves team that was like a sieve on D this season.
The only problem is it would leave us with JUST Sessions at PG, and for all the mockery Kahn gets from ignorant fans for supposedly being obsessed with PGs, the Wolves only have two active in the rotation right now. We'd have to pick up one late in the 1st round or in the free agency to at least give us some breathing room, plus Ellington could probably play some spot minutes at the PG like he did this season.

Re: Jonny Flynn?
I don't think Flynn would fit well in Indiana, but maybe that's just me. He's a good player don't get me wrong, but he's another one of those guards that puts up a lot of shots (similar to Ford). While he is a much better playmaker, I don't think he's the answer we've been looking for.

Re: Jonny Flynn?
Lots of good stuff in this thread. First, let me recap.
Flynn or Sessions make a great deal of sense for IND. They have designed their payroll so that next summer every player except Granger and youth on rookie scale deals will be gone. This will be one of the youngest teams in the league, and will be ready for an immediate rebuild. However, the one position they don't have youth at is PG, and there's no reason to invest more minutes into TJ Ford, when he's clearly not the future. There is nobody in this draft at #10 in this draft that who would provide a better PG opportunity than Flynn or Sessions, and TJ Ford is an expiring.
For MIN, its tough for me to give up on Flynn. I have always believed that it takes a couple years to see what you have in your PG, because its the most difficult position to learn. Flynn probably had it worst than rookie PG's, because his teammates are also young, he's got a new coach, and the offense does not compliment his skills. Kahn said last week that he thinks that Flynn has the potential to not only be a decent starting PG, but an All Star. Now I don't know if that's not just pumping up trade value, but several PG's, like Deron Williams and Rondo, did not even look as good as Flynn the first year.
On the other hand, MIN can't corner the market here. IND has several decent choices from many teams on a promising young PG, since the last draft was full of them. Moreover, we all know that when Rubio comes over, he'll be handed that starting job and Flynn's trade value may decrease, so there may be some incentive for MIN to trade early as well.
There are several deals here that I like. I think I'd prefer to trade Sessions over Flynn. Sessions just turned 24 (Flynn is 21), so he's probably young enough, and IND may put a little extra value into the fact that he's locked into that cheap deal for the next three years. IND has also seen what Sessions can do in MIL. However, I think they'd like Flynn a bit better, with more youth and upside.
I would probably be OK with #16 + Sessions + Gomes or Hollins for #10 + TJ Ford, and I think that makes sense for IND as well. They can still grab a decent player at #16 and moving TJ Ford makes the transition a little quicker. Flynn and #23 for #10? Its not unfair, but I'd probably prefer to give another year to our lottery prospect.
Lastly, if we acquired the #10, I'd like to do it as quickly as possible, so we can run through the permutations of trading up during the draft. If we waited until after, players get chosen that may not fit a trading partner, and it usually reduces the trade value of the picks.

I'm thinking that would work well for both teams if Minny has decided that Sessions and Gomes are not in the their plans they may well want to get out of those deals, although they are a smallish deals and not real long term. TJ's expiring contract would give them a way to get out of those deals and have a back up PG for this season when Rubio comes over TJ is gone, the money they save on Sessions/Gomes pays Rubio and they stil have Flynn as a back up plan or trade bait.
I'd start by offering TJ and #10 plus our 2nd #41, for Sessions, Gomes, and #16 and #23. If they wouldn't do that look at dropping the #23 and #41 out of the deal.
