I agree...I don't care if there is the occasional lapse, so long as it is bookended by impact plays. I can't get behind players like Roman, who you only notice when they're getting burned and they otherwise have no impact on the outcome of the game. I just don't see that happening with Mays.

Agree 110%. Worst case scenario: he's not the long term solution and ends up being a second string SS that can fill in as a starter at times. That's fantastic in my opinion.

I have had some time to digest the 2 OL 1st rounders, and the more it festers the more I don't like it. Not so much with Davis, but his reputation about "going through the motions" does concern me and there was no need to donate a pick to move up and get him.

The Iupati pick is the one I am not liking. In college the coach most generally puts their best lineman @ tackle. Iupati played inside his whole college career. Obviously some guys skill sets are better suited for guard, but there is a reason why guards aren't usually drafted very high.

Then you have to consider the fact that dude came from Idaho. I mean who the hell does Idaho even play? Not exactly opposing high level competition on a regular basis. Plus, there are concerns with his pass protection. If he struggled some with pass protection against subpar college talent, what is gonna happen in the NFL? Also, I have heard/seen the term "penalty machine" associated with him from a couple different places.

All things considered, I am wondering why he was considered a first round prospect. But I guess thats why I post on a message board and don't work for an NFL team.

All that said, Of course I'm hoping he becomes a stud lineman and he proves me wrong. But at the moment I'm not real enthused.

Let's hope that Solari can teach Iupati some good technique for pass protection and help him improve in that aspect. Iupati should definitely open up some holes for Gore in the run game. I

I also hope Singletary can instill some work ethic into Anthony Davis and help him play to his potential.

It's a shame that Cleveland drafted Joe Haden because I am fairly certain that if they didn't he would've fallen to SF with the 11th or 13th pick. 49ers were drafting players based on areas of need and you can't blame them for that. I just hope these two 1st rounders and Taylor Mays can contribute next season and help the 49ers make the playoffs once again.

^ I was ready to order my Haden 9ers jersey. I would like the secondary a helluva lot more with Joe back there.

Apparently Holmgren went against his D-coordinator wishes and drafted Haden. Rob Ryan reportedly preferred Kyle Wilson over Haden.

Lets just hope that with Staley/Davis/Iupati the Niners now have a young/extremely solid core on the o-line. If the 2 rooks play up to their supposed potential, it should improve Staley's game as well, and all the other lineman for that matter.

I hate Holmgren even more now. If Anthony Davis plays to potential then the 49ers OL will have a very good core for the next decade.

I agree. I thought Pouncey would have been a safer pick as he could play Center or Guard and came from Florida where he played against big time competition. Hindsight being 20/20, I wish they would have dealt the 13 pick to Philly rather than trade up for Davis and took the two thirds. Taken Kyle Wilson with 24 and Bruce Campbell with one of the thirds.

^ After Haden was off the board, I wanted to move down as well and look at Wilson. Instead the brass decided to move up and donate a pick to get a guy who would have been @ 13 in the first place.

I think alot of fans are more mad that we took him b/c Atogwe is still out there for the "getting". Could have filled the safety spot by pursuing him and then had a 2nd rounder to draft someone else with.

It must be noted that I did like the Mays pick. I was actually THRILLD with our first 3 picks!

Atogwe would've been nice, but for some reason the 49ers FO didn't want him. Probably because he would cost so much more than Mays. Either way, these guys are upgrades from Michael Lewis and definitely Mark Roman.

Heard on Sirius NFL radio a few days ago, that Frisco may be primed to pick up OJ. Apparently if a new deal is not agreed to by June 1, St Louis loses its restricted free agency rights, making OJ unrestricted. Which means that any team can sign him outright, witout giving the Rams compensation. Sirius NFL radio claimed that the 2 sides are still worlds apart from a deal, and the deadline is fast approaching.

They also said that Atogwe's girlfriend, just so happens to be Singletary's daughter. Which I had no idea. Obviously Sing and OJ can't openly discuss or go on record about joining forces when they get together, but you know its happening. Sirius also claimed that they have a great repore, dur to their unique relationship.

We shall see what actually happens. But I would be downright giddy to pick up Atogwe. Especially from a division rival and having to give up nothing in return. OJ is fast emerging as one of the best safeties in the league, and is a big time playmaker. I would definitely feel a helluva lot better about the secondary with Oshiomogho back there.

We turned a weakness into a strength!! Enough said... Image how much better we are going to be next season if Alex Smith gets the Job done like he should. I see us making the playoffs for sure! I'm really excited about this team and love what they did in the Draft..v :D

The niners need to stop worrying about positions that either extremely young or are established. Our O-line, RB's, ILB's, D-line, and safeties are safe right now. It is more important now that the niners address a true shutdown corner and a serious pass-rushing OLB. Its less relevant but the next biggest need is a WR2 next to Crabtree, because I just don't see Morgan as that option yet, and the last thing they need is a Qb IF and only IF Smith doesnt work out.

Josh Morgan should not be the 2nd option at WR. That is just unacceptable. Hopefully, the 49ers can address the pass rush this season and pressure the opposing team's quarterbacks a little more.

Morgan's ok as a #2 option if you aren't expecting much. Crab/Morgan is fine for right now.
