Mid level exemption
If the jazz use Mid level exemption who do you like. I Like spliting the exemption and adding Darko Milicic or Mike Miller for 4 million per year then add a point guard Javaris Crittenton or Shaun Lingington for 1.5 million.

I like splitting it also, but about 50/50. 1.5 to 2 mil for like a Joey Graham, Ime Udoka, or Sasha Pavlovic an athletic wing veteran that play fairly good defense and can hit the 3. Then like 2.5 to 3 mil for Joel Przybilla (If he doesn't pick up the player option) or Brad Miller, just some expereinced big men that aren't afraid of contact, and can actually play.

Wesley Matthew will easily be picked up for the biannual exemption, no one will overpay for a 6'5" wing player.

Re: Mid level exemption
i thought there was a thread a little while back talking about how the only way the Jazz could keep Mathews is if they sign him to the mid-level. Since we are already at the salary cap. Is that only if we re-sign Booz or something?

Re: Mid level exemption
The majority of wing players that are 6'4" or 6'5" and go undrafted on their second contract get paid very much more then what they made the first year. I think it would be a huge mistake if the Jazz FO resigned Matthews for more then 2 mil a year because now he will be on every scouting report.
I am not hating on Matthews, I love his play!

Re: Mid level exemption
Matthews will get more than that, as will Mike Miller, and we are hoping Joel Pryzbilla doesn't pick up his 7 million dollar option for this season so he can sign for 3 million with the Jazz?

Re: Mid level exemption
I'm hoping the LLE will be enough for Matthews.
But, even if it is, unless the Jazz let Boozer walk for nothing I highly doubt we'd be adding more salary when we're allready in lux tax range. Just makes no sense.
So, to use the MLE you have to assume two things. #1 - Matthews takes teh LLE. #2 - Jazz let Boozer walk.
Most likely scenario in my estimation is that we use a portion of the MLE to sign Matthews and let the rest of the exception sit for emergency use.

And BTW, it's mid level exception, not exemption.

Re: Mid level exemption
Something a lot of guys have forgotten, is that the Jazz can actually offer a little more than the mid-level exception due to the Matt Harpring trade. If Boozer walks, It wouldn't surprise me if the Jazz try and bring in a mid tier free agent by offering him just a little more than he can get elsewhere. Think Ray Allen or David Lee. Techniclly, the Jazz have trade exeptions for Matt Harpring, Eric Maynor and Ronnie Brewer in addition to the midlevel and biannual exeptions that every team has. It gives them a LOT of flexibility for the offseason.

What's this LLE you keep mentioning? The bi-annual exception?
In any case, I think the Jazz could use ANY available exception to match an offer sheet to Matthews.

Re: Mid level exemption
Yeah, it's the bi-annual exception. Lower Level Exception.

Correct.
Matt Harpring $6,500,000
Eric Maynor $1,318,920
Ronnie Brewer $2,717,161
Any of these trade exceptions could be used to receive a single player in trade without having to send anyone in return. I did a bit of looking and the trade exceptions cannot be combined, used in multi-player trades (unless they are done as multiple single transactions), or used to sign a free agent.
They are valuable assets for the next year.

Re: Mid level exemption
Can the TPE ba used only in trades? Or can it be used to sign FAs?

Re: Mid level exemption
I still don't think we have to use any part our MLE to re-sign Matthews so....ya....I wouldn't worry about him.
I would love to see Mike Miller here, not a fan of Darko. The guy has been terrible his whole career and has a recent history of being a headcase.

Re: Mid level exemption
Why the Mike Miller love? It doesn't address a need...unless we are able to trade Kirilenko.
The Jazz will go no further than they've been without a true defensive center. Someone that can do in the playoffs to EVERY team what Fesenko did to the Nuggets in games 2 and 3. If the Jazz cannot address this need now, then I would be happy letting them cut costs and move expensive players or keeping Andrei and letting him expire so we can free cap space to sign a real post threat on Deron's 4th year of his contract so we can make a run and convince DWill to sign again.

Re: Mid level exemption
Absolute "no" to Darko; Sloan would destroy him.
Przybilla is injured, so no way he opts out of guaranteed money.
The TPE can only be used in trades, although we can use it to receive a free agent player in an S&T.
