Woah. Do you think he was asked to go, or did he step down in protest of Mike Brown being fired.
No matter what, it's clear that the front office is in shambles.
So, what is the upside? What's the downside?
Sorry if there is a thread about this allready, didn't see one.

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

No coach nor GM. Yep, this is definitely a team Lebron wants to resign with.

What are the possibilities of bringing in a coach that wants complete control?
Well at least we're not Detroit!

That makes little to no sense. Why would LeBron want to resign with the coach and GM that were not able to get him a ring? If anything, a fresh slate would be a better way to get LeBron to stay.

Chris Grant is the new GM, he was the assistant GM.

Us = built around John Wall.
Cavs = built around Anderson Varejao.
Yea, I'd love to trade shoes with you guys.

Re: Ferry stepping down
Somewhat of a surprise, though Ferry has said in the past that being a GM wasnt his ultimate goal, saying he watched the job take a toll on his father in Washington. And, of course this and every other move/news brings out the trolls like youngal.
So, how does Gil bet...er i mean get along with Wall youngal? I smell a duel at twenty paces. I hope for your teams sake that wall is a better "shooter" than Gil or he may not be your star for long.

Re: Ferry stepping down
IMO this is a lot more about Mike Brown than anything else. Ferry clearly never wanted to fire him and felt betrayed that he was forced to axe such a close friend.
What does this mean for Lebron? Anyone who says they have any idea is lying

Re: Ferry stepping down
So many trolls here at RealGM.
Ferry leaving probably means Gilbert is going to bring in a big name like Calipari or Larry Brown to please LeBron.
Can't say that I blame him considering how much he will lose if LeBron decides to leave.

The thought of Calipari makes me cringe. Sign me up for Larry Brown though. Defensive mindset that can work with superstars, yes please.

Re: Ferry stepping down
Mostly this. And Gilbert wanted him to give up some of his power but he didn't want to so I guess that means they really are swinging for the fences in the HC search.jazzfan1971 wrote:http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/67001/20100604/ferry_stepping_down_as_cavs_gm/

Upside = we can attract a big name HC that helps convince LBJ to stay, downside = if LeBron leaves the front office has little to no structure.
It's sad to see him go, but I guess it seems sort of necessary if we want to be in the best possible situation to retain LeBron.

Re: Ferry stepping down
This was unexpected to say the least.. However, if it was for the best, then so be it. Definitely got to thank Ferry for what he has brought to the team the last 5 years. There is nothing better he could have done during his tenure, seeing how Jim Paxson put the Cavs in a bad situation to begin with.

Re: Ferry stepping down
Where's the quote where Lebron says he hates Larry Brown? Larry Brown would be a great fit IMO. He gets the best out of his players. Look at what he did with Charlotte, nobody expected them to be THAT good on defense.

LeBron never said he hates LB but it is was evident during the 04 olympics that something was going on. IMO LB is one of teh best coaches out there but the Cavs will sign whoever LeBron wants

Re: Ferry stepping down
^ That's a problem, IMO. I'm not sure LeBron knows what's best for him. LB would be an awesome coach for him.
But you don't want to give LB front office power too. In Detroit, he wanted to move Billups when he first got here really badly. Glad Joe said no to that.
