Jays sign DeWayne Wise to a minor-league deal

Wise came up through our system many moons ago (he'd been Rule V'd from the Reds in 1999), and has carved out a career as a AAAA guy and saver of perfect games. This move makes no sense to me as our AAA outfield is fairly crowded, and Loewen and Thames are making a push for promotion. No idea who is getting their walking papers in Las Vegas as a result.

He's a great fielder, obviously. And he's hit alright in AAA the past few years. Maybe could fill the 4th OF role over Jeremy Reed?

Although Snider is coming back at some point.

Perhaps, but Reed is a competent fielder as well...UZR/150 of 7.0 in center, though his numbers are inexplicably bad in left and right. And where Wise can't hit at all, Reed can slap the ball around a little.

I can see us trading 1 of our OFs. Maybe Reed for a Pitcher.

Must be a move coming soon. IF we sweep the Yanks I bet AA has something up his sleeve that gets done in the next few days. This makes no sense otherwise.
