I'm on the Wes Johnson train, and I wouldn't be upset if we take him at #4.

I wouldn't be upset with Johnson. I think Cousins is the better player, but Johnson fit better with how I think a team should be built.

yea, I agree with Worm Guts. I want Cousins (BPA) but I would be happy with Johnson. Very happy.

I think the "value" argument needs to be properly understood. It is not "Cousins vs Johnson" but rather.

Cousins+(whatever SF we get for Al/love)
vs
Al/love+ Johnson.

(which makes sense unless we feel Cousins could be the destroyer of worlds franchise player.

I don't think it's Cousins vs. Johnson, I think it's Cousins vs His Own Issues, then Johnson vs. Monroe vs. AFA if His Own Issues wins the battle against Cousins.

I was just reading this mock draft and they had us taking Johnson...But even more interestingly they compared him to like a poor man's Kobe Bryant

I'm not saying he will ever be as good as Kobe or even close but they do have similar games. Just a thought kinda wondering who you guy's think he might be like.

Personnally, Johnson reminds me more of point forward like Pippen ... similar size, ball-handling, and defense - maybe not as strong, but a better shooter. If we draft Johnson #4 and turn Love/#16/#23 into Randolph and another good perimeter player, I'd be quite pleased and I think the Rube would start seeing the Northern Lights

Really? I realize that you don't mean he's as good as Pippen, but I don't see the stylistic similarity. Pippen had handle, vision, and great passing ability, besides elite defense. He could create for others. Johnson is more like Marion if he reaches his ceiling(he's a long way off defensively). That's why he'd fit pretty well with Rubio, in my opinion.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Hard to know looking 2-3 years ahead how an individual will develop physically, but I see Johnson developing into a well rounded player. The defensive capability may not reach what Pippen was, but I think he's already a better shooter. The biggest unknown is how his ball-handling will be ... some say he's very good and some claim it's a limitation. I'm not much of a Marion fan, and though he was a good athlete, not much stood out in terms of raw skills.

Coming out of college Pippen was a very different player. The comparison seems arbitrary to me.

I see a lot of mock drafts have Minnesota taking Wes Johnson, I'm a big fan but would you guy rather have Cousins? Iv seen some trade ideas were Minny trade 4 for 6 and take Johnson there but I don't think he'll get past 5 unless The Kings really love Caspi. Is it easier to just draft a need a 4 or draft BPA and be forced to make trades to even out your roster?

Yep.

http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1015933 (36 for Cousins, 16 for Johnson)

http://www.canishoopus.com/polls/results/73394?container_id=poll_container_73394_1226189810
(319 of a possible 415 votes for Cousins)

For some reason, a lot of mock draft makers completely ignore what the fans want and Kahn's draft history (taking 2 point guards in the top 10 last year due to BPA) and have us ignoring value for fit.

In reality, I'd be willing to bet that even if we wanted Johnson more than Cousins, we'd still draft Cousins at 4 and trade him to Sacramento (who could really use a good big man) for Johnson and extras.

I disagree that Cousins is BPA over Wes. They are clearly #4 and #5 value wise in this draft, but I think Cousins maturity vs. Wes plays a huge role. Cousins fit on the team is okay provided we make other trades and we play more half court, but wes fits both triangle and up tempo, has outstanding maturity (yes I know he is 23), and really looks the part of a low risk, high potential guy.

Like stated earlier, Wes will be selected by the Kings if he gets there (he is a great fit with Evans), so its not like we are reaching heavily by taking Wes at #4. I think we end up taking cousins if we managed to lineup a few other trades.

I would bet Wes does not go to Kings. They have Garcia, Casspi, Greene. My bet is Monroe.

If this is true, getting Randolph + 6 without giving up 4 is paramount, imo.
