Grizzlies| Magic: Trade Idea

Post#1 » by WillyJakkz » Sat Jun 5, 2010 2:51 am

Posted this on the T&T Forum. What do y'all think?

Grizzlies trade: C Hasheem Thabeet| #25 Pick
Magic trade: C Marcin Gortat

Grizzlies:
Mayo| Brewer| Gay| Randolph| Gasol (Gortat)

Gortat practice footage:

+ Gain high quality Center Marcin Gortat who would definitely garner more PT behind C Marc Gasol
+ Provides solid, dependable depth at the Center position w/ Gortat already being NBA ready
+ Makes the current Grizzlies more of a playoff contending team
+ Gives the Grizz a very solid asset on a very modest contract for a quality NBA Center
= Gortat still not a starter but receives more minutes than in Orlando
- Trading prospect C Hasheem Thabeet who could one day become a franchise C
- Trading the #25 Pick

Magic:
Nelson (Bledsoe)| Carter (Redick)| Lewis (Pietrus)| Bass (Anderson)| Howard (Thabeet)
Draft: PG Eric Bledsoe (w/ Grizzlies #25 Pick)

+ Gain project/ prospect C Hasheem Thabeet who we could allow time to groom w/ limited PT behind Dwight Howard as well as practice/ working out w/ D12 should make Thabeet a force sooner than later
+ Draft PG Eric Bledsoe (if he falls to #25) to groom behind Jameer Nelson
+ Gain youth for a high quality Center
- Trading Gortat, we know exactly what he gives us

Deal?

Pass...as much as I like to crap on Thabeet he has a high ceiling and showed flashes of being a defensive anchor. The Grizzlies are apparently targeting Bledsoe so it wouldn't make sense to deal him. Gortat is a solid back up center-decent starter though.

amazing trade for the Magic, i really don't know why the Griz would ever want to do this. i mean if you draft a project with the #2 pick, why trade him away after one year?

You're not really dealing Eric Bledsoe, it's the 25th Pick that we'd be chancing that Bledsoe would still be around.

Just draft Avery Bradley w/ your #12 Pick. Problem solved.

Rejected it on T&T - rejected here as well. Another point not mentioned is that if Gortat isn't happy riding the pine as a sub in Orlando, what makes you think he'll suddenly be happy playing similar minutes behind Gasol?

I don't really see the appeal for the Grizz in this one.

The Grizz may not be oppossed to trading Thabeet, but it definetily will be for a game changer, meaning a starter. Clearly this was the case with the proposed Monta Ellis deal last season. Trading Thabeet plus the #25 for a backup center (which is not a need area this offseason) would get someone hungup on pretty quickly.

Why would we ever do this trade? Do people see Gortat as a starter? I think he might be a borderline case given the lack of quality starting centers in the league, but he is most effective off the bench.
