There is absolutely no way in hell Izzo - whom I have an unhealthy man-crush on - will jump to the Cavs unless LeBron confirms to the Cavs, in un-Boozerly fashion, that he's staying.

(a) If Izzo takes the job, LeBron ain't leaving. This is the second best thing for the Bulls next to LeBron being a Bull.

(b) If Izzo turns the job down, it doesn't mean much either way.

Jordan never fully understood basketball. He had the lowest basketball IQ of any NBA "superstar" in history.

Sources: Dan Gilbert has discussed framework of massive contract with Tom Izzo, up to 5 yrs at around $6 million a year. #cavs

Offer may not be formalized, but heard there's many perks including free use of a private jet.

Still, several people I've talked to close to Izzo say they don't think he'll take it. LeBron in doubt plus MSU has great team back
.

Izzo currently makes $2.6 million per at MSU with bonuses that push to $3. Sounds like Gilbert just offered to double it.

30 million for Izzo is insane, and I love Tom Izzo.

That said, it's not my money and doesn't effect the cap, so you go Mr. Gilbert.

Does Izzo seem like the type of coach that a superstar would want to play for? I am not sure of that. He's a yeller. He's reallly intense. He has no NBA experience. I just cannot see LBJ going "Izzo? Oh YEAH! Sign me up!"

Plus

I think Izzo turns it down anyway.

Not at all. Happens all the time.

Izzo has a job. Him staying at his job isn't a bad sign for anyone. Except maybe other big ten teams.

izzo should take the job, get a clause in his current contract saying that he can come back in 3 years or less if he is fired. No LBJ, that is pretty much assured. Then he can have his crazy money and go back to actually making a difference.

MS. LBJ is from OSU country.....hum...

Izzo would get double the money and coach the best player in the game for the next 6 years. Izzo would be all over this gig if Cleveland was confident about keeping LBJ.

Stein writes this:

Cavs undoubtedly see Izzo as a potential new "star" if LeBron leaves. But Izzo, like any top coach, won't want job w/out guarantee of LeBron

IMO this tells me the Cavs are uncertain about the chances of keeping James

Even with the huge numbers, I still don't see Izzo taking the job. The only reason why he would go to Cleveland is Lebron, and Cleveland can't guarantee that Lebron will be there next season. So what's the point of taking a job in which that time would lose to Michigan State in a game?

Again, Gilbert has to do something. There is no top pro coach available, and none of the assistants are going to wow Lebron into staying in Cleveland. This is still a desparate move by Gilbert, one that won't work. But hey, The Black is still available.

Which is not a good sign for Cleveland fans. If Izzo knew LBJ was serious about staying, he would take the job. If LBJ was serious about staying, he would let it be known to Izzo or any big name coach that he's staying.

I'm sorry Ralph I misread your comments, didn't realize they were in the context of keeping Lebron (duh).

tyvm

kinda got to toying around for about 30 min earlier and came up with it...i'm pretty much an amateur (as in that's the first one i've done) at it, but kinda liked how it came out. Made this one right afterwards..for some reason it cracks me up.

As for the Izzo talk, money talks..but he certainly seems happy where he's at currently. I can't see the guy wanting to go to Cleveland without Lebron staying. It'd be an incredibly depressing environment to come to, and that doesn't even take into account how depressing it'd be trying to coach the left-overs. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

If the rumor is true, then I would bet Izzo takes the job. 6 million a year is an insane maount of money for him to turn down. No way he DOESN'T take the job with, or without LBJ.

Totally agree. If he isn't interested, then it really is about Gilbert reaching for his boy Izzo and perhaps the clearest sign yet that LeBron has decided to move on.
