Mike Wilner Suspended from the Fan590

I just think the FAN is using this situation to put Mikey in his place.

You cant compare Mike Wilner with Bob McCowan other than to say that they work for the same station. Bobcat has been in the industry for decades longer than Wilner and is more established and credible. McCowan is paid to have opinions and he's on Primetime hours with advertisers paying premiums to air during his program. Jaystalk with Wilner after the game for 30 minutes isnt exactly on the same level.

That said, what the FAN590 did was wrong, as I have stated previously in this thread. I am not surprised other writers are rallying around Wilner, although I regret that support will only end up galvanizing WIlner around his persona and approach rather then wise him up to the fact that he's a smug arrogant prick sometimes without really earning the opportunity to be a smug arrogant prick (i.e. like McCowan).

This is sort of my feelings as well.

The thing that really fans the flames of my ire is the way that he treats some of the people that call into his show, and a lot of the time, it's not for being wrong, but simply for saying things like "I think we've got a good team this year." At which point Wilner will so douchily point out that he doesn't actually own part of the team, so can't actually make that statement.

Also, his sickening defense of steroids in Baseball was enough to make me dry gag.

Don't think I've ever heard a defense of that from him, but I do respect people who keep an open mind on that topic and reject the prevailing myths.

Wilner talked about it in the end during his interview with Zach Cooper in the morning. He didnt reference it directly, but was thankful for the support.

He's normally much worse than he was last night.
A couple of weeks ago when he filled in on PTS he was being so insulting to callers that for the first time I actually considered contacting the Fan590 to lodge a complaint. This is coming from someone who delt with Norm Rumack's hammerhead alert crap for years and never said a peep about it. But Jeff was taking completely non-confrontational callers and saying things like "go away" and just hanging up on them if he didn't like their topic. If you listen to his show alot when he fills in you'll notice he takes this stance often when the subject of "MMA" comes up.

The MMA stance of Blair and McCown is ridiculous and makes no sense. Boxing is okay, but MMA is not. huh? McCown is all about making money and free enterprise, and MMA is doing what it does without public money, yet that's still not good enough. They end up hanging up on callers.

And this comes from me, a guy who doesn't even follow MMA.
