Tony in Indy, Indy:
Any chance Portland would be willing to deal Fernandez and Bayless for Matching salary and #10 pick?
Alex Kennedy:
What's up everyone, thanks for checking in. I had to bump the start time back one hour, Steve and I were filling in on ESPN 1040 and I just got out of the studio. There's a lot of questions to get to this week so let's just jump right in.
I wanted to touch on this right away. As far as the Indiana Pacers go, I've been told that the number ten pick will be moved. In fact, the team was telling prospects that there's no way they keep the pick during interviews at the Pre-Draft Camp in Chicago. With that said, I'm not sure which teams the Pacers have talked to or how close they are to dealing the pick. I'm hearing that they were very interested in Patrick Patterson but they don't feel he'll be on the board by the time they're up to pick at ten so they feel that moving the pick is the best move for their franchise. Portland has their own issues right now, it appears that Kevin Pritchard is on the way out so who knows how their discussions are going right now. As the draft gets closer, we'll definitely keep everyone up to date on potential trades and moves that could take place on June 24.

Re: Baron Davis
As far as the salary for Baron goes, we were planning on paying someone a bunch of money after the 2011 season anyway. If we do this, and we land Gordon, we can draft a big (Patterson or Udoh, or even if we are super lucky, Cousins.) w/ the #8 as we won't need a PG or a wing, then we are pretty much set to make a run. And we'll still have a bit of cap room coming off once Dunleavy and Foster are gone.
I say this is the best deal or idea that's come up. It'd put us in the playoffs next year and set us up to be successful for a long time. Plus, I think it would excite the players, Danny cause he's got help, Gordon because he's back home, and Baron because he's in a new place w/ argueably the best player he's ever played w/ in Danny. All the young guys will be excited, thus I believe they will all play harder/better.

Re: Baron Davis
There is no way the Clippers trade Gordon and pick 8 to move Davis unless there is at least some long term, on court production value coming back. And expirings and Rush wouldn't be enough.
Baron Davis is one of those guys smart teams only look at from a distance.

If they were trying to clear space for big FA's, like Lebron....?

They'd want Eric Gordon and the #8 to put next to him. Hard to attract LeBron with only Blake Griffin coming off a major injury, Deandre Jordan, and Chris Kaman.
Kind of hard to compare that to Dwyane Wade and Michael Beasley, or Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and other assorted pieces.
But, add Eric Gordon, and at least you then have a young core to play with in Gordon, Griffin, and either Jordan or Kaman, and still a number 8 to add in.

Re: Baron Davis
I could see something like Davis becoming a Pacer while a package of players led by TJ Ford become Clippers (or some go to a 3rd team). No way do I think this trade merits any picks being moved.

So how do they clear capspace for Lebron by taking Ford and Murph? Lebron is gonna be a free agent this summer.
I think Davis is a good player but the injuries bother me and the lengh of his contract is an issue. The only way I'd take him is if we are getting paid, and that means Gordon and the #8 pick for Rush, TJ and Foster. Otherwise I'd look to someplace else for a less expensive more durable option than Baron Davis.

Baron > Ford money wise, and IDK but if it was Foster instead could he just be wiped or bought out? IDK much about Foster's contract.

Foster is owed $6.65 million for the 2010-11 season. I suppose they could buy out Foster, but then you have LBJ playing with the supporting cast of Kaman, Griffin, TJ and Rush? With what bench? No LBJ is going to Miami, Chicago or staying in Cleveland.

Kaman and Griffin would be better than anything he's had in Cleveland, but yeah, it's a stretch for him for the Clippers, doesn't mean they won't foolishly try to lure him, w/ the Pacers being the beneficiaries.

Re: Baron Davis
IF we did send Ford, Rush, Murphy to LAC, the Clippers could turn around and send Murph to OKC for one of their late first round picks and filler. OKC can absorb most of Murphy's contract.
With that pick LAC could take a guy like Bledsoe (if available) or Dominque Jones, James Anderson, Elliott Williams, etc. That would give LBJ a Daniel Gibson/Delonte West type of player right there. Rush would fit more of the role of Anthony Parker.

They can't offer him anymore than anyone else. In the end it is gonna come down to where does James want to play. I'm sure he wants an NBA Title! Is he gonna win it with the Clippers with that supporting cast? Not likely. I think Miami has the best shot other than him staying in Clev. They can resign Wade, sign James and still have about $15 million to work with...

"Even though Baron Davis has a history of not getting along with his coaches, that would be okay though. The Pacers are used to it though; they had Ron Artest when he was in his prime of getting angry."
This guy has got to be a Clips fan.
