19+14+2 assists, 8/11 from the field and 3/3 from the FT line in 35 minutes. His match-up against Splitter was very entertaining, and his team ended up winning by a fair margin to force the series to game 5.

Now that some actual research has been done on Tomic... what would you think about his draft stock if his name were in 2010 draft? Take in account that many so called specialists have been projecting guys like Motiejunas and even Seraphin to go as high-mid first rounders....
I'll say it again... Jazz brass has to talk with Tomic and his agent about his future...

Re: Timberwolves interested in Tomic?
Thanks for the links. I watched most of that game against Tiago Splitter's club. Tomic looks much better than I expected. He's very active on the offensive end, and despite his slender frame does a nice job setting picks and cutting off of them. He also makes good decisions with the ball: I don't recall seeing him turn the ball over once and he often found the open man on the perimeter.
I'm encouraged.

I think Tomic would be in the discussion around 8 - 12 in this draft. Definitely ahead of Orton, Seraphin and probably Whiteside.
Tomic seems to play within himself, runs pretty well and has nice touch around the hoop. He could be near Gasol's level in the future if he puts on more weight, improves his passing, and keeps working on his offensive game.
I wouldn't trade him away unless there's a clear rotation player the Jazz want.

Thanks for the link. After watching Tomic, I think he has the length which the Jazz desperately need. Last I heard the Jazz were hoping to have him here for the 11-12 season. Can anyone confirm this?

I think he has a buyout next summer, but I don't know what the amount is. NBA teams can't pay very much toward buyouts, so Tomic would likely take a cash hit to leave, which means his NBA contract would have to be big enough to entice him to leave. This is where the Jazz may benefit from having drafted him in the second round rather than the first, since first round picks are governed by the rookie scale, which is often less than they make overseas, especially when you factor in the buyout.
Edit: ok, so teams CAN pay more than $500k towards a buyout from a foreign contract, but any amount greater than $500k counts against the cap. Any amount spent in this way counts across the length of the contract in the same way as a signing bonus.
Edit 2: Tomic apparently has a 5-million Euro buyout, which currently is over $7M.

It sounds like you found this somewhere, but its something I've never heard before. If this is true, the Rubio situation is far different than we are being led to believe. I was under the impression that the rule was that NBA teams could only offer $500,000, but they could offer other incentives for the team, like marketing opportunities and extra games .. just no more cash. I've never heard anything about cap space.

I'm basing it on Larry Coon's usually reliable NBA Salary Cap FAQ:
The following are also treated like signing bonuses for the purpose of determining a player's salary:
* Payments in excess of $500,000 that are made to non-NBA teams or federations to release rights to a player. Note: It is a common misconception that teams cannot pay more than $500,000 to release a foreign player. They can, but any amount above $500,000 is applied to the team's cap.

Re: Timberwolves interested in Tomic?
7 million is a large buy out, but over a 3-5 year deal you can make up that kind of money pretty easily in a contract.
