OT-Strasburg

Post#1 » by Ji » Wed Jun 9, 2010 2:44 am

this kid for 15m looks like a bargain. How come everyone freaks out about the kind of money he makes when its much less than an NBA or NFL rookie?

Anyway....great start tonight. Lets home John Walls debut is half as good

Was there live. This will probably rank up there as one of my top sporting events ever attended. The crowd was buzzing, electric and Strasburg lived up to the hype.

This guy is unbelievable to watch. Probably one of the best debut performances ever in baseball.

Yeah I hope that Wall has a similar debut. Wall is the most hyped guard in the draft since Steve Francis or Allen Iverson. There was a good amount of hype about Derrick Rose, but I think Wall is seen as a slightly better playmaker and is expected to contribute more immediately.

Strasburg's successful debut makes signing Ivan Rodríguez look great. It can't hurt to have a future HOF catching for a star in the making. I think it will really pay-off when Strasburg struggles.

And two more than the AL record, and all in only seven innings. Two tied for ML record 15 K's, wonder if they pitched all nine innings? Also struck out last seven in a row, three short of NL record, but would have tied AL record.

He could ahve pitched all 9. Dude seemed to get more relaxed as the game went on. He's incredible to watch.

it looked like somebody made a souped up video game character and started playing with him on the easiest difficulty... ridiculous.

Well they were playing the Pirates. I think it was a good idea to have him start against one of the weakest opponents. However even taking that in to account, it showed Strasburg is the real deal.

Kobe scored 81 against the Raptors. It's still 81, and it's still 14 Ks in a ML debut. Eventutally he'll get rocked by some heavier lineups, but what pitcher didn't?

I stopped watching baseball almost completely in the mid 90s. This is the first thing that's made me interested again. I hope he's not juicing.

He'll get rocked eventually, every pitcher does. All of 'em have been lit up. What isn't up for debate is the quality of this guys stuff. Just filthy....

Other than almost getting punched in the face by Chuck Liddell, and witnessing the birth of my first child (whenever that happens), this would rank up there in my personal "big time" moments in my life.

Strasmas on MASN2 last night smashed Nats record, got higher ratings than all but one Caps game ever on CSN.

So some quick stats I've heard on the radio, just from my memory so correct me if I'm wrong.

-First pitcher ever in his debut to have a 14 K to 0 walk ratio. In fact from some research it looks like no pitcher even had over 10 Ks and 0 walks in a debut ever.
-Only the 5th pitcher in Major League HISTORY to have the 14 K+ to 0 walk ratio. The others I believe were Roger Clemens, Mike Mussina,Javier Vasquez and Brad Penny.

Changes are he levels out and won't maintain this insane 2 K's an inning ratio, but the scary thing is, he will probably improve (barring injury)
