Re: Free Agents?
Really? I am asumming all of these guys are free agents this summer?
The cap is somewhere around 60 Mil right? The Pacers payroll is somewhere around 64Mil for next year? Plus draft picks? Doubt management wants to sign any of those guys and flirt with luxury tax and still be a 6-8 seed..
Only thing we have to sign these guys with is our Biannual exception and Mid-level exception...Not saying these guys wouldn't sign for that, but I am guessing they would sign for that type money with a better team.
Haven't we already given these guys MULTIPLE chances on our team?

Re: Free Agents?
The few guys on that list who the Pacers might want would probably not fit into the current payroll.
I'd be pleasantly surprised if the Pacers can re-sign Earl Watson (maybe he should be added to the list?) but I doubt it will happen.
Would like to see Brad Miller's return--I think he'd be a nice backup center--but again, I don't think the Pacers have the means to sign him.
Livingston would be an intriguing gamble, but I can't see the Pacers going there.
Haslem would be great, but there's no chance in hell of signing him.

Re: Free Agents?
The Pacers have no money available for Free Agents. Signing their 1st Rounder and 2 2nd Rounders will put them at close to $69mm in total salaries, which is about $1mm over the luxury tax.
The Pacers have repeatedly said that they will not pay the luxury tax, and they will probably make a trade between now and the deadline to get themselves under the $68mm threshold.
If they make a trade this summer that gives them significant cap relief, then that may change, but for the time being, you should not expect the Pacers to sign any Free Agents.
Also, the Pacers used their BAE last season to sign Solomon Jones, so it is not available again until next summer. They only have their MLE and the minimum player exceptions available.

I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Re: Free Agents?
we'll offer something to Watson even though we expect him to get more elsewhere. if that happens, we'll make a similar offer to some other veteran point guard. Livingston is the only name on your list that interests me.

I would give a good portion of our MLE to Livingston.

What is a good portion? 3yr/9m.
I thought Shaun might be had for cheaper because everyone will want to see if he can do it over 82 games, kind of like a trial run, before offering him the full MLE. His little run at the end of this season was impressive, but everyone has a right to be skeptical of his ability to grind it out through an entire season. If Shaun wants paid on a subsequent contract, he must go to the right situation and Indy seems like a great opportunity. He'd instantly be our starting pg, no matter who we drafted.
3 yrs 5mill would be my highest offer, with a player option on the third season. This would definitely be a better option than trading our pick for a similar prospect at the position. The Wiz already have a gluttony of ball-handelers ( Wall- Arenas) so Livingston probably already knows he is out.

Re: Free Agents?
The only guys off that list I could see us going after are Shaun Livingston and maybe Darko Milicic if we decide to go point guard with the #10 pick. Another guy that wasn't on this list is Nate Robinson, I think we could very well look into signing him with the MLE or something like that. Just a thought.

I wouldn't mind this either in all honesty if we don't draft a wing player or end up trading for one before the season begins. Carney would add some defense, but would also add the high-flyer aspect that the Pacers haven't had for quite some time (until Dahntay Jones showed some of it last season). He would be a cheap addition, and could play some minutes behind Granger, and also would push Dunleavy ot work harder for his minutes as well.

Though i agree with the need for another good wingman, i just don't think he can be beneficial playing in a very limited playing time. If he can play pg, then he could be an exception, but typical wings like Carney would only get a pinch of minutes and his value would just drop lower. If ever we're going to add another sg/sf, it's more for talent than depth.
SG= Rush/Jones/Dunleavy
SF= Granger/Dunleavy/Carney?
Not to mention that McBob can also sometimes play sf because of his quickness and athleticism.
It's hard to devalue Dunleavy right now, yes he's injury prone and would probably miss a ton of games but more importantly, he's an expiring free agent. He knows he should step up and have an impressive season to attract teams into signing him after his contract expires (the typical expiring contract/breakout scenario). So with that at hand, i think there would be a very minimal playing time in both wing spots, particularly at the 3, well unless we can unload one.
Of all our wings, Rush has the most trade value next to Granger (assuming he's untouchable), Jones will probably stay because of his defense and improving offense, and Dunleavy would be hard to ship out because of injuries, but his expiring contract could be used in a package.
I'd love to have Carney but with this situation, i'd rather take Livingston to add depth to our thin pg spot and occasionally play at the 2.

Re: Free Agents?
We won't be signing any free agents this yr unless we can dump some salary. Now if we could get a deal like TJ for Sessions and #23 that would give us some room but not much.
If we did a deal with the Clips for Baron Davis, Gordon and the #8 for Murphy, Rush and Ford that would save us some cash too.

Acie Law could be the target, since his cheap and the Pacers are nearly out of point guards and over the salary cap.

Seriously, how/why do these nonsense scenarios even come up. There is like a -80% chance that a deal like that would happen.

It's one scenario that has been kicked around, I don't think it will happen, I was using it as an example. If we are to consider any free agents we must first dump some salary. There will be a deal made I'm sure, I'm thinking the Minny deal Sessions and #23 for Ford makes the most sense.
