Look for former Bobcats Coach Sam Vincent to be brought in as the lead assistant.

Nice pick up. Would be interesting to see who he has as his assistants since Harris is retired, Paul Westphal is with the Kings as well as Mario Ellie.

Maybe he goes with veterans for lead assistants and 2nd assit.? Brian Hill, Paul Silias etc?

If this Avery rumor is true....I will say it again...its a mistake. Not the coach...the timing,

Getting great players trump who is coaching in terms of our needs and opportunities. There is no real downside to waiting until the finals are over. No real downside to waiting unti Jul 1st if that's what it takes.

My fear at this stage is, players are deciding behind the scenes and things arent breaking our way. Either way, I find it hard to look at this and think...great...Avery Johnson signed in early June and we are 3 weeks away from free agency.

Me thinks two off-season question marks has just been filled: head coach and 3rd pick. Head coach being Avery, 3rd pick being Favors. Not too ecstatic, not too depressed about it. Just even keel here. I agree with Enetric, I would have rather wait until after the playoffs to see what Phil's decision would be, but with LA being up 2-1 (and probably 3-0) in the FInals, I think ROd is getting the feeling that Phil either takes a break for one season or go for a three-peat in LA (should they win this Finals like they should).

So why Favors? Because everytime someone interviews him, the guy doesn't talk about scoring or being a star or whatever. He always talks about defense and rebounding and how to compliment Brook. I think Thorn and the team will definitely like a defensive minded guy alongside the front line with Lopez.

With Avery in the fold and possibly a new emphasis on defense, I see Favors as being the guy. Teach, develop, contend in Brooklyn.

People will speculate if we could get him or not...but it will be just that...a lot of talk. Why not wait and see what the strory is?

The primary goal is to get Lebron. Hopefully if Avery is our coach...Avery is a guy Lebron has high regard for. But as I have said all along....Lebron can have anyone he wants if that gets it done in my book. Cal, Phil, his pet bird...I really dont care. I see no point in jumping the gun unless it is an absolute elite guy like a Phil Jackson.

Good point, but im pretty sure that the reports on Atlanta being interested in Avery forced Rod's hand. Sure we could've went after Phil with our owner but what if we couldnt get him? Waiting for the playoffs to end just might have been too risky for Rod.

Awesome, I think he's the best available candidate out there not named Phil Jackson. And since I see a next to no chance of Phil coaching our team, I don't think it would have been worth the risk of the Hawks picking him up.

Overall great pickup for us, hopefully he can motivate this team and get them to play some actual defense.

The perfect coach for all these young talented guys that need to some dicipline.
Can you imagine how effective Devin can be with his D back now that his offensive game is way more polished than what it was back in Dallas?

Btw Im shocked nobody posted these 3 video’s yet

I'm very happy. Avery was my top choice all along (i think, dont remember any more). Its hilarious how there are some posters trying resist this because its shattering your delusions about Phil Jackson, i feel for you. Can't wait till a month from now the 2 max delusion will be crushed just the same, still no takers for a wager i take?

I'm still not happy about Thorn btw. This all the excuses he ends up interviewing ONE guy and hiring him. What does that tell you? Our big bad list of candidates that were desperately waiting for Thorns phone calls, heh, turns out noone was interested. Glad that Thorn snapped out of it at least.

Make your call on much Avery is gonna get paid. I say $5-6 mil.

I just hope this doesn't mean we are going to adopt an isolation based offense, that's the last thing we need.

Last Ford mock has us taking Terrico White with the 27th.

I might be trying to make connections that aren't there, but considering the jump to hiring a HC now, the comments from Jay-Z and the Vecesy thing (I know he's unreliable) I wonder if LeBron already let it be known that he wasn't interested in coming here this summer.

The Knicks and Heat both have the ability to get 2 MAX guys (we currently do not) and of the teams with room to sign only 1, the Bulls have a lot more talent currently in place. Combine that with 2+ years in Newark, I don't think this scenario is a stretch.

I wouldn't expect much jump in Harris' defense, to be honest, at least not until a third guy emerges to become that primary playmaker/scorer. As it stands, Devin is either 1a or 1b to Brook. When you are utilizing that much energy offensively, your defense will suffer. And vice versa.

That's why you see these guys in the NBA play in the Olympics (like Lebron, Bosh, Wade) and their defensive intensity is racheted up a notch. When it's in small stretches and they have other guys who can pick up the offensive load, it allows them to focus more and spend more energy on their defense.

It's interesting how all the main contenders for Lebron are getting their coaches now. Thibbs in Chicago, Avery here, the Cavs have offered it to Izzo. That can't be a coincidence...?

Or it could just be Phil Jackson let it be known there was absolutely no chance he is leaving LA.
Also, I don't know if I agree that Chicago has more talent currently in place.
Yes Rose is straight nasty, but I like Brook better then Noah and the rest of the guys on that roster are quite meh. Add to that, that Rose is very ball dominant and how effective would he be next to another ball dominator that is used to having the whole offense ran through him?

I'll pop back in about a week before the draft and let you know what I'm hearing. Too much bs out there now to bother sorting through, especially in the middle of all these workouts.

Thorns wait did have a bit of a negative impact already

He said that he has not determined who will be on his coaching staff, but added that he “already lost the guy I wanted – P.J. Carlesimo – because he couldn’t wait a week longer.” Carlesimo signed on as Jay Triano’s top aide in Toronto last week. When asked if he foresees keeping any of the four assistant coaches remaining from Lawrence Frank’s staff, Johnson replied, “No. I have other guys in mind, but it might take a while – I’m getting a thousand calls.”

PJ would be a nice assistant to have. Good to hear that WHOLE staff of LOSERS is gone, wish Doug Overton would take CDR with him.
