Jose Bautista is a FA?

just wondering, if Jose Bautista a FA at the end of the year?

cause that would explain alot of his motivations to erupt this season........ though when JP RIcciardi got him, I was under the impression that he was locked up for 3-4 season, which was the main reason the Jays got him. to be the first guy off the bench for 3-4 years at an affordable price, similar to why Fred Lewis was brought here.

I hope he is signed for a couple more, cause there are better ways to gain a 1st rounder. Hell Scutaro "could" have gotten us a first rounder, so losing a top guy like Bautista for it, sux.

though I dont see the JAYS openning the bank for him....... if he is a FA, he is gone

I don't believe you can just "erupt" in baseball unlike in basketball where you can hog the ball and get all the stats for yourself. I just think that the new hitting coach had a lot to do with it.

Bautista signed a 1 yr deal this offseason.

But he still has one more year of arbitration it looks like.

Bautista is under the team's control for one more season after this. And the way he's hitting right now, I fully expect them to offer arbitration and put him at 3B next season (which wouldn't have been very likely before).

just a thought..... remember when Boston signed John Lackey before Marco Scutaro and the Angels got the top pick that Toronto was aiming for

and when NY-Mets signed Jason Bay before Rod Barajas and the Jays lost out on the high pick (i think)

..... or when NY-Yankees signs Sabathia before Burnnett and the Jays had to settle for a lower pick.

I don't know that much about baseball FA and arbitration, but arbitration deals seems to be a pretty fair deal. Plus, he's still young enough and if he continues on this pace I don't know why we wouldn't want to keep him as a part of our core. If we had a budding prospect that was behind him in the ranks, then that's maybe when I would look at the value of the pick.

This is actually quite wrong, Scutaro actually signed before lackey and it doesn't matter the exact time, we got pushed out of the first round selection because the red sox signed a HIGHER level type A free agent(lackey over scutaro)

I believe they determine the levels using the score assigned by Elias Free Agent rankings

All a Type A free agent means is that they are rated in the top 20% at their position and then the groups are broken down to levels depending on the scores....

Likewise top 40 would be type B free agent

He was hitting it at a similar pace in September, but guys like Adrian Beltre and Gil Meche for example overachieved and got good contracts because of their contract years.
