Mo Evans exercised the player option

Mo Evans exercised the player option

Mo Evans took a look at the free-agent market this summer and decided his $2.5 million salary in 2010-11 is the best deal for him.

Evans confirmed a WSB-TV report that he has exercised his contract option for next season. Evans made $2.5 million in 2009-10.

“There are not a lot of teams out there giving away contracts,” Evans said. “I’m satisfied with my deal even though it’s undervalued. I’m still going to go out and do my job.”

Evans’ decision means Atlanta will have limited cap flexibility this summer.

Mo Evans and Mike Bibby for TJ Ford.

Who says no?

& Mo Evans deal isn't undervalued. He provides mediocre defense, mediocre rebounding, mediocre scoring efficiency, and doesn't create any shots. He's an above average shooter but offsets that blowing more layups than anyone not named Brandon Jennings. He isn't horrible but there isn't a chance that he's worth more than the 2.5 million he's getting paid.

Another point of contention, it didn't really affect the cap flexibility either. The salary only mattered if we renounced Joe and Childress. Since we are hoping to have some S&T action that was unlikely. He might have more value as an expiring contract to us.

Also I agree that his contract wasn't undervalued. He's making more than Matt Barnes and less than Grant Hill and about the same as Dahntay Jones. The days of people throwing the full MLE at a backup swingman like Pietrus has passed. If he thought he could make more on the open market he would have opted out to say differently is posturing.

Not bad for the money. Unfortunately, he might very well be our starting 2 guard. I would like to keep Crawford coming off the bench if possible.

Mo Evans will not and should not start for us if we are trying to move forward. He has been an okay fill-in for Marvin, which is his position.
Mo knows what kind of year he had and jumped on that 2.5M. He knows what the market is for his talents. We lost out on both Barnes, and DJones, and both could have helped us.
Mo is good insurance, but we need more from him going forward. I had higher expectations of his defense when he left Orlando to come here.

In reply to the guy up there who says Bibby and Evans to the Pacers for T.J. Ford, as a Pacers fan I would love that. Trust me, if you want a guy that passes the ball at all, don't even come close to acquiring Ford.

Now to the real subject, with Mo Evans coming back to the Hawks. He's a good player, and even though you could argue that he's getting paid more than he should be, he still helps out more than people give him credit for in my opinion. Sure, on the offensive side of the ball he did struggle last season at times, but he's always a threat to knock down the long ball. The real part of his game that goes unnoticed is his defense. He's very good both on and off the ball defensively, and usually slowed his opponent down a lot, and that helps a lot off the bench.

I don't know why there is so much Evans hate, I would be very happy that he decided to come back and you wouldn't have to search for a better option than him.

The point of my trade proposal was that Indiana is the one of only two teams in the league that don't have caproom and have a starting point guard who was less productive than Bibby in 2010. The other team would be the Lakers but would they really bench Fisher if they win another ring?

As for Mo...no one in this thread is unhappy about him exercising his option. He's not a horrible player and 2.5 million isn't that much. I just think it's ridiculous for him to think that he's undervalued. Like dallas said-the days of teams just giving the MLE to guys like like Mikki Moore and Jared Jeffries are over. Just look at what Matt Barnes,Shannon Brown,Tony Allen, and Jamario Moon got when they hit the open market. None of those guys got more than 3 million per year on the open market despite being better players than Mo.
