Cowboys bring back Hudson Houck to coach O Line

Post#1 » by NeedsMoreCheese » Fri Jan 18, 2008 6:09 pm

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones not only opened up his checkbook for Jason Garrett, he reunited with offensive line coach Hudson Houck, who agreed to a three-year contract Thursday worth an estimated $3 million, team sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Houck, who coached the Cowboys' line for two of their three Super Bowl titles in the '90s, will replace Tony Sparano, who was named the head coach of the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday. Houck had been dismissed as the Dolphins' line coach when Bill Parcells was named vice president of football operations in Miami.

Garrett was a reserve quarterback during much of Houck's previous nine years in Dallas. Garrett served as quarterbacks coach on the same staff with Houck in Miami for before being named the Cowboys offensive coordinator in 2007.

This is probably the best move we could have made to fill the void. Granted, I dont know alot about OLine coaches but the guy is accustomed to our system, to Garrett and has had previous success in Dallas so I assume hes probably the best candidate.

This is a fantastic hire. I'm a big fan of Houck's--he makes mediocre linemen look like a very good line. Check Miami last season--their OL was far and away the best part of the team, and every single player on that line got better as the season went on.

Houck's been around for so long he can adapt his style to whatever Garrett wants him to teach. The one thing Houck refuses to put up with is false start penalties, so Flozell (if he's back) had better learn to count past 2.
