I'm glad you are acknowledging that lack of talent and crap jobs is the primary reason why college coaches have done poorly in the NBA.

I am not sure why you would hire a college coach over a NBA assistant especially when the Cavs don't have much young talent if Lebron leaves.

Because this particular college coach is a stud.

But I agree with your general point. Hiring Izzo on that contract is pretty stupid if LeBron isn't coming back. If LeBron leaves, the Cavs immediately become one of the 3 worst teams in the NBA and will be scraping the bottom for at least 3 years. And Izzo won't be able to do anything about it.

That's a Tyrone Corbin job, not a Tom Izzo (at $6 million a year) job.

The reason why Izzo'd be insane to take on a LeBronless Cavs team is the same reason why LeBron would be insane to re-sign. I don't know whether Izzo contacted LeBron by now; I'd assume so.

I hope Izzo stays in the college game. He's a great, great coach and has a tremendous impact on the success of MSU.

Going to the NBA is a terrible waste of a great college coach.

Izzo rejected Bulls offer? (see wiretap). and I thought Garpax wanted an 'experienced' NBA coach with playoff experience to replace the 'big' shoes of VDN. hypocritical much?

Yeah but Vinny hasn't even coached a high school basketball game at the time. At least Izzo has experience at coaching.

were screwed! we won't get LBJ now if Izzo signs with Cavs.

I think LBJ was are biggest chance at free agents, now they will think Chicago is a bust since LBJ didn't go there. DARNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Bulls never made an offer to Izzo. KC and McGraw both have refuted that report. And even the original source has back tracked, now saying only that 'Izzo thought he could have the job if he wanted it"

A little cocky of himself. If he goes to Cle, Im not saying its a bad move but not the move I think Lebron wants.

Lebron wants to start winning now, why would he let a coach who has to change his entire strategy up now to do it. Idk if its smart but Gilbert is acting irrational on the thought of losing Lebron.

This is a travesty if he leaves MSU.

I don’t think that’s universal. Calipari, for example, is just not a very good coach I don’t think.

Izzo is, and I think would do fine with decent players in the NBA.

I agree, but I wouldn't put it past them. Tom Izzo is an intriguing candidate, and could wind up being a good coach. But to me, this reeks of desperation, mainly because of the reported dollar amount they offered him.

Maybe, but is it stupid if it's a move meant to attempt to convince LeBron to stay and they don't know either way if he is?

I can't really say that I blame them for being desperate.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo reportedly will visit Cleveland today, meet Cavaliers officials

According to a Michigan State source, Izzo has scheduled a trip to Cleveland on Thursday to meet with team officials and possibly tour the Cavs' facilities. Whether or not Izzo will go through with the trip is unknown.
That isn't the only sign he's gotten serious about Dan Gilbert's offer to replace Mike Brown. Sources told The Plain Dealer Wednesday that Michigan State players left a meeting with Izzo Tuesday night believing he was going to take the Cavs' job.

Yea... that was posted last night.

Wonder if they'll interview Scott too before giving him the job (if he is willing to take it)...would make sense that they'd do that if he is, indeed, on equal footing. Probably just Cleveland putting the pressure on.

Yes, because he's stataed that he doesn't want his fingerprints on this coaching decision for the Cavs. Also, they haven't done squat to improve their roster, which is the main reason they haven't won a championship.
