Maybe, but is it stupid if it's a move meant to attempt to convince LeBron to stay and they don't know either way if he is?

I can't really say that I blame them for being desperate.

Yes, because he's stataed that he doesn't want his fingerprints on this coaching decision for the Cavs. Also, they haven't done squat to improve their roster, which is the main reason they haven't won a championship.

What does him wanting or not wanting his fingerprints on the hire have to do with them doing everything they think they possibly can to convince him to stay? He means a hell of a lot to that franchise in many, many ways. You can't blame them at all for being desperate.

When Michigan State coach Tom Izzo visits the Cleveland Cavaliers’ facilities and meets front-office staff in a planned trip on Thursday, he wants to hear a detailed plan on how new general manager Chris Grant hopes to retool the franchise should LeBron James(notes) depart as a free agent, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday night.

The relationship is Gilbert went to Mich State. He's a huge pillar of the Michigan community.

I'll be amazed if Izzo leaves. If he does it's about the $$$ because the guy bleeds Spartan green and is what college coaches are all about.

5 years from now he'll have his $$$ but he'll always regret leaving East Lansing if he does.

But it's too hard to turn down that $$$, you can't blame the guy.

This is one of the more interesting stories of the Summer of 2010 so far.....
curious to see how it unfolds.

I meant the relationship of Izzo to Lebron. I would assume this hire has some sort of rationalization for Lebron but who knows.

If its just Gilberts love for Michigan than Gilbert must not be too confident in Lebrons staying.

To my knowledge there isn't a relationship between lebron and Izzo other than Izzo tried to recruit lebron when he was in high school. Tom T has more of a relationship with Lebron than Izzo does.

He's just a big name. I think it's more if LBJ leaves to be honest. If they need to rebuild, IMO the Cavs will use Izzo as hope

Further proving that Izzo means nothing to the status of LeBron. If Izzo signs it doesn't improve our chances but doesn't hurt them either.

Thats what this whole desperation sounds like. It looks like Gilbert is basically believing he is losing Lebron and wants to lay his own handprint on the Org after geting rid of everyone.

I bet once Lebron leaves, they go into Washington mode style in revamp. Getting rid of everyone.

I have no clue. Let me explain myself better. Izzo is a big name so even if he doesn't help LBJ staying, he certainly doesn't hurt it either. Now if LBJ leaves, Izzo is a big enough name to sell hope of being able to rebuild over the likes of Lawrence Frank and Dwane Casey. Both of the coaches I name might be better NBA coaches, but the name of Izzo trumps both.

I just think it covers all bases for them.

Edit: IMO one of Izzo's main question will be if LBJ bolts, will the Cavs do a S&T getting talent back. That would be big IMO of what Izzo does.

I thought for sure you were on the other side of this coin yesterday, but I could be wrong... the lack of a search function and me being too lazy to go through this entire thread to find out, though, make that impossible for me to know for sure. ;)

Either way, I agree with you 100%.

To be honest, I was on the other side yesterday right when we heard. But as I started reading everything and had more time to think, I changed my view on it. I'm a flip flopper, what can I say

The one thing I'd be skeptical of is of a Cavs need to sell hope if he leaves. I think the fan base will be devastated to an unsalvageable extent, and I don't see how any move they make could take the sting off.. especially not a coaching hire. It won't be any secret that the proverbial s**t is hitting the fan if he's gone.

We're at the top if LeBron is going to sign here.

It's not up to the Cavs.

The only way it could hurt us is that it brings some more teams into the picture, but if he wants to come here, it actually helps us a lot, because we can dump off Deng and then sign someone like Bosh.

Well it doesn't matter where on the list we are own. LBJ picks his team and they work on a S&T. Also they won't let LBJ know they are okay with a S&T. They tell LBJ, if you leave, we will not help you. For example if LBJ says I'm going to Chicago, he can't sign to the 9th, so Cleveland than contacts us to work something out.
