OT: Zaun's baseball future in question

Brewers catcher Gregg Zaun will have season-ending shoulder surgery on Tuesday, which will likely finish the veteran's short stint in Milwaukee and maybe his career.

"I'm not in a situation anymore where I need to play. I don't need to play. I don't need to play Major League Baseball to validate myself as a person," Zaun said Wednesday, before the Brewers' game against the Chicago Cubs.

"Do I want to play? That's a different story. It's too uncertain to tell. I'm really upset about having surgery and my season being over."

Zaun, who played for the Toronto Blue Jays from 2004 to '08, was wearing jeans and flip flops and looked ready to enjoy what he said would be his final night at Miller Park as he made the rounds to say his goodbyes to teammates and other members of the organization.

I honestly thought Zaun was done 3 years ago. When you can't hit and can't throw anyone out, it's amazing that you can still keep a job.

Hes a good analyst and might end up working for sportsnet.

I found that video hard to watch. Sucks to be hurt like that.

Except Zaun was an above-average hitter for a catcher and played good defense for the position (compared to our current starting catcher, btw, he had and still has a much better CS rate).

There's a reason teams kept offering him multi-million dollar contracts to play baseball.

The guy calls the best games man. I miss him on this team. I still remember that walk off homer he hit with us way back when.

I guess I was a little jaded by that 2007 season when everyone and their mother was stealing on him and he was constantly throwing 3 feet short of 2nd base.
