You ever wonder....

Post#1 » by Starkiller » Fri May 28, 2010 1:41 pm

Why we on this board can come up w/ so many ideas that are feasible and will help the team, yet Bird and the team can't ever get anything going? I mean sure it's easier said than done, but just reading over a bunch of things on here makes me think, "They have to have thought of that, and if they have, why haven't they tried it?"

A lot of things are talked about...more than we can imagine, but the reality of teams pulling the trigger is what is a big stopper. Teams are pretty fixated on salary cap and luxury cap now and if the owner says, "Don't add another cent to the payroll", then a team has its hands tied unless they can find a team A) under the cap that can take on salary or B) that doesn't care about the luxury tax.

Also, while we value guys a certain way, not all teams have the same value set for a certain player. Plus the fact that turnover on a roster is looked at as a negative, that is why you hear people talk about the "core" of their team so much. If you constantly trade your picks/youth, then you end up in cash crunch situations similar to New Orleans and Phoenix. New Orleans is going to seriously have to look at trading Chris Paul in a year or two and Phoenix had to trade Shaq, just to be able to have a shot at keeping Amare with Nash and Jason Richardson. *Not to mention Shaq just didn't fit in Phoenix.

You have to consider we are not handcuffed because all of our significant deals are expiring, with exception to Granger. Before this season nobody wanted them until TJ and Troy were close to getting moved at the deadline. Now that teams are willing to acquire them we'll be in the mix if it benefits us.

Long story short, teams in the NBA are businesses in which all decisions must be made to help your team be the most successful. Primarily, a lot of the things discussed are easier said than done.

Youn make the right moves and the team could be more successful. (Fan base increase/playoffs)

Make the wrong ones and the team could suffer (season tickets/merchandise sales etc)

Make no moves and you could be left in the status quo for quite a long time. You might not move in either direction in this case.

All teams are trying to balance these factors out, which is why you never see a lot of "Fair for both teams" like trades.

It's a fine line where the risk vs reward factor is very tough to gauge.

Coming up with great ideas to improve the team is the easiest part. Executing is what's difficult. You have to be a blue chip negotiator to make this stuff happen, and Bird supposedly doesn't have that skill set. Also, I think he has a little too much skepticism to pull a deal sometimes (he's not sure if he's getting bamboozled). Not that Bird's had many great ideas either though.

and I've thought of sleeping with a lot of ladies too, but no one had to ask why I hadn't tried it.

You don't know what Bird has come up with, but it takes two to tango and some times 3, just because a deal is "feasible" doesn't mean the other team will do it. They may have other plans that we and Bird are not aware of.

Personally I think a deal of Dunleavy and Foster for Nocioni, Garcia and #8 makes a lot of sense for the kings, they save a ton of salary, but we don't know how motivated they are to save that salary. A deal sending TJ Ford to Minn for Sessions and a pick seems to make sense as well. Will it happen we're gonna have to wait and see.

I'm betting something will happen, and it may be a deal we haven't even thought about.

I have a feeling this will be a major off season.

^Yeah, draft's coming in less than two weeks and our pre-draft workouts and scouting are somewhat like inactive. We haven't even had most of the guys that could be drafted at the 10th except Udoh.
Now i'm wondering what's cooking.
