He sounds like Tim Lincecum based on the scouting reports....

Doesn't matter if he turns out great. We could've got him several rounds later and used this pick on a very highly ranked prospect.

****, that pick came out of nowhere.

Undersized righty with very good velo, but not a ton of other stuff

I doubt it.

He sounds like a bullpen arm.

Bingo. I'm not questioning the Cubs scouting department but it sounds like the Cubs could have waited a few rounds and taken him. I also take out of this that the Ricketts are very, very cheap and this concerns me.

Zach Cox to the Cardinals. Good. I wish I was a fan of that organization.

SportsWorld, read this.

As bad as our pick was, I was glad we didn't pick Cox.

Just saying if this guy's a stud or an ace pitcher in years to come, this whole thread gets bookmarked. :D

I want to like this pick but I keep reading some of the draft experts tweeting that most scouts are baffled with the pick. Maybe the Cubs will draft some expensive guys in the upcoming rounds.

Cubs took Reggie Golden with their second pick.

Very toolsy high school RF from Alabama. Has some good power/speed potential but needs work on contact and pitch recognition.

He's a gamble, very high risk/high reward.

To put this in perspective, Wilken's really high on the kid. He says that one other team right after us was really interested in Simpson and very well could have taken him. Hopefully the reason this is so surprising/questioned? is just that Simpson's in Division 2 and no one got much of a chance to look at him.

I don't think you get it. We could've gotten him later. So we could've picked someone else good then a few rounds later still got the man they wanted. That's what the big deal is.
