Bobcats War Room- Twenty Third Pick

Post#1 » by Walt Cronkite » Thu Jun 10, 2010 10:02 pm

Look familiar? It's identical to the last one. To be honest, I feel like we're done with the exercise at this point, since the majority of the voters just selected "trade the pick" (that we don't have) as the 22nd most suitable option on the board. Continuing my honesty, I always felt like this was the problem with that option... we're not making a mock draft, we're ordering the best prospects for our team. We could acquire the 30th pick, but have our 22nd player still sitting there undrafted, but now we wrote in "trade the pick". Not very logical, but I never argued against it since it had to my knowledge never won in the 4 years we've done this. History has been made.

Following this logic, "trade the pick" should win here, too.

I would keep "trading the pick" until pick 25 personally.

But it isn't pick 25, It's the 25th player we have a preference for. You should be voting for the 25th player now. A vote for "trade the pick" is saying "we're better off trading the pick than drafting any of the remaining players".

In this hypothetical, we trade into the draft and we have our first 22 options off the board to other teams. We could be at pick 23 (unlikely--this would mean literally every player we covet is taken by the teams ahead of us), it could be pick 43 and a lot of guys went that we didn't care for. It's a big board. 2 victories for "trade the pick" signifies to me that the exercise is over, because twice we will have decided that we are better off trading whatever pick (22 and beyond) that we acquire than taking anyone in left available in the draft. If you want a player who isn't one of the 8 in the poll, then you should be selecting "I want someone else" and listing them within the thread.

Yea, I understand your logic with the "trade the pick". Seems, as you said, we screwed it up with the last pick though.

Keeping what you said in mind, I'm going to change my pick to Larry Sanders. I feel that he should go at 25, but since we're making a rankings versus a mock, I might as well defy the logic and pick him. There's definitely more than 21 draftable players available this year.

Because of the upside, I would take Willie here. WW has a lot of potential, and it would not hurt at all to take a flyer on him here.

He's not showing any votes yet. You need to vote for him if you want it to count.

My thought is that we need height, but sometimes height alone doesnt make a team work. Of the guys listed, none has potential to be an emergency point guard. But of the group listed, I would feel better with Willie Warren than any of the other selectables on our list. But we need a good shooting guard too.

Any way I look at it, it keeps coming back to Willie Warren, with other arguments getting tossed aside for the talent + need argument.
