Re: 2010 Memphis Grizzlies Draft Discussion
I really don't think the Grizz need a "star point guard" on this roster. Conley is a good fit with the starters. He's not great by any means, but he's not terrible either. He's just solid all around.

We are not even a playoff team though. Why would we not need an upgrade at the most important position in the game? What contenders have not had star point guards running the show? (discount the Lakers because they run the triangle)

Re: 2010 Memphis Grizzlies Draft Discussion
04-06 Heat (Damon Jones, J-Will)
03 Spurs (young Parker)
08 Celtics (young Rondo)
09 Magic (Skip, not Jameer)
I crap on Conley as much as anyone on here, but he averaged a respectable 12 PPG and 5 APG (16 PPG and 5 APG last two months of the season) as the fifth option on the team. He's only 22 and can still improve. I'm not saying he'll be an All Star but it's not like he's a scrub either.

I think it's Paul George, no question here. Babbitt doesn't fit with your squad. And Henry would be good to replace Mayo, but Mayo is still there...

Conley showed a lot of promise last year; I think he became a better shooter (although he needs to get a little more consistent from 3) and has started to really hurt teams that don't account for him on offense. Overall, he does a solid job of running the Grizzlies offense. The only problem with the Conley/Mayo back-court is that they look really small against certain teams.
I think it would be great if the Grizz could pick up another guard, particularly one who is decent off the bounce, but more importantly, one who is good from 3.
I am a bit ambivalent about the idea of OJ at point, but if Rudy stays, I think X. Henry could be very good off the bench for the Grizz. Paul George seems like a very nice prospect, but IMO Henry would fit better with the current roster and can play a little defense, something that Paul George hasn't shown yet.

Yeah I've been wanting Xavier too. He can help spread the floor, play SG or SF and can adapt to being a role player. He's also a much safer prospect than Babbitt and George.

12 - Henry
25 - Stevenson
28 - Vazquez
Sign Hakim Warrick for additional scoring off the bench and call it an off season.

I read Vernon's blog and apparently Pondexter destroyed Babbitt, shut him down completely during their workouts. Also said he's not a good athlete despite his tests

I don't think it is that he's not a good athlete. I think that he is just not as fast with the ball in his hands. He has trouble creating space and I assume his change of pace moves are not there.

Pondexter is a freak athlete with an unbelievable motor, him locking players down in workouts has been common from what we've heard.
If I'm the Grizzlies I take BPA (likely a big) at 12 and then take Pondexter at 25 or 28.

Re: 2010 Memphis Grizzlies Draft Discussion
I'm also on the bandwagon of Henry at #12. But I do have a question. If the Grizzlies do get him what role would Ronnie Brewer have and what about Sam Young? If they re-sign Gay then I'm assuming it will be Mayo and Gay still getting huge minutes. How would Henry, Brewer, and Young fit in?
I also like Dominique Jones as Conley's backup( I've come to the conclusion they aren't going to look for a starting pointguard but will once again let Conley run things even though I would like to see an upgrade there) at #25 if they keep that pick, although if they figure they can still get him at #28 then I might want them to work some sort of trade with the #25.
But I'm not privy to workouts to see who looks better so it might be within a group of Jones, Vasquez, White, Bledsoe, Armon Johnson, and possibly Bradley that end up in a Grizzlies uniform as Conley's backup, although I'm still intruigued by Mayo wanting to see a little time at the point.

I think Sam would be the odd man out of the three, but then again maybe Henry isn't quite ready next season so they take their time with him.

Re: 2010 Memphis Grizzlies Draft Discussion
At first I really wanted the Grizz to draft George because of the "upside/potential" factor. Then I thought that Henry would probably be able to contribute right away and is still a young player who can become much better.
Now I'm back fixating on George's "potential," and that it would be really unfortunate if Memphis passed on him, only for him to turn into a star. Hopefully one of them is off the board (and one is still available) by the time the Grizzlies pick.

Re: 2010 Memphis Grizzlies Draft Discussion
I'm beginning to warm up to the idea of Jordan Crawford at #25 or #28...he's very athletic and can shoot from deep. Problem is he's another undersized SG and supposedly has attitude problems with his coach. I'm big on attitude and coachability (which is one reason I want Henry and wouldn't mind Patterson) so that's a big turn off.

I've soured on George since he has this obsession of being a SG when he clearly should play the 3 position

ESPN reporting the Grizzlies will trade 25 and 26 to the T'Wolves for 16.
Fantastic trade if true.

Re: 2010 Memphis Grizzlies Draft Discussion
Then pick Whiteside! It is extremely difficult for anyone who comes in immediately to block shots at that rate. Also, once his physical strength improves, he will really succeed on the next level.
