I know we had our chances to go out and get this guy. His situation dragged on and on and for someone who I wanted in our lineup after what transpired in the '09 playoffs, I don't think Sund even considered him for 5 minutes.
I pined for this guy last year when we were looking for bench players to improve our bench even after signing Craw. But we keep Bibby, Marvin and Zaza and that 17M could have been used much better than how it was spent. There must be some sort of loyalty factor going on downtown.
We are going to struggle trying to recover that 17M worth of quality play going forward for the next 2 years.
Tell Sund and the ASG we as fans aren't as clueless as they think we are.

Re: Can we now discuss why Baby Davis would have fit here?
I could cite things like only having the MLE to work with, he was a restricted free agent so they could have matched, he was only interested in signing with a team with a starting opportunity. Those would all be true, but I'm not sure he was considered so I'm not so keen on defending the inaction. We signed Joe Smith, who was helpful in small doses and his experience may have benefited the starters, and Jason Collins, who garnered us nothing. The other resignings were with bird rights and didn't affect us going after Davis or any other free agent because with cap holds we were over the cap. Still we didn't use the MLE to pursue bulk inside that we need against Dwight Howard. I'm not saying Davis stops Dwight Howard, but he does fight for position without fouling out allowing the rest of Orlando to be covered. Of course most of our lineups have no one who can stay with Jameer Nelson so it might be a moot point in the long run.
Davis obviously would have fit perfectly off the bench because he's learned to play the C position defensively in the NBA. Create Clifford Ray for coaching and Kevin Garnett for motivating, but they taken a skilled (he was skilled offensively in college), chubby, and limited height big into 20-25 minutes a night of post impact. We could use skill set, or that coaching, or that motivation because Boston gets more defensively from their bigs than we do.
Davis is unavailable now, but the draft chat is alive with players we could possibly mold to be like Perkins or Davis. Of course we won't hire the right coaches so it probably won't work out for us.

I think this speaks more to the Hawks horrible drafting and developing of their players. The Celtics pick lower in the draft EVERY YEAR than the Hawks but have produced far more young talent since Ainge took over.

Eh, Ainge drafted Al Jefferson and Rondo. We drafted Smoove and Horford. I'd say that's comparable, if not in our favor.

They also drafted Gomes,Powe(good before tearing knee up),Perkins,Bill Walker,Tony Allen,BBD,Delonte West, etc. The Celtics have drafted better players than the Hawks despite not having lottery picks outside of 2006. The Hawks have only made 3 good draft picks in the last 10 years.

We took Shellhead the year Rondo was drafted by Phoenix at 21. Boston got Rondo for cash.
Al Jefferson was the 15th in '04. We chose Childress at 6. We get Josh Smith at 17 and probably could have gotten him in Round 2. Hard to question that now of course.
It does show that like HG25 said, we don't develop talent very well, no matter who we draft. Shellhead has never panned out for anyone, so what has anyone ever seen him do to warrant a roster slot?
What Sund does with drafts will dictate if we improve or not period.

I agree with you td00....but the "Smith in round 2" part is off. Smith was actually projected to go top 5 before the workout and interview process started. No mock draft had him going after 17.

Wow, I stand corrected; I never thought he was considered for anything in Round 1. I remember the talk about he and Donta Smith being discussed. Well, he has panned out and I did want him resigned as well.
I do see us being limited if we don't get he and Horford help on the inside. Not sure if I see anyone in this draft that could fill that role from where we draft.

Billy Knight was horrible at drafting. Mike Woodson was horrible at playing young players unless he had absolutely no choice. The entire staff has been horrible at developing young players. The organization has not shown that they value a 2nd round pick at all which is a shame because it is a way to improve your roster. Plenty of blame to go around.
We chose continuity over talent upgrade in our resignings and in free agency. That does help in getting the team to 53 wins, but when the playoffs came it resulted in bad match ups and missing skill sets. Glenn Davis turned out to be a bargain investment for Boston. Brandon Bass not so much for Orlando.

I actually think Bass is just as good as Davis. His post defense isn't as strong but he's far more athletic and probably has the most underrated midrange jumper in the NBA.

Bass > Zaza any day of the week.
Enough said on that one.....for those rumors that we could package Bibby and Marvelous to Philly for the #2 and Brand...........where do I sign? I get more out of a one-legged Brand and have JJ's replacment just in case.........that would be too good to be true.
I would throw Zaza in that deal too if they insisted.
The 3 we have should not be long for this team.

I don't think it was Bass's fault. It was the makeup of the team. No room for a 2nd low post guy on the court with Dwight Howard which left him without an opportunity.
